Wed. afternoon ride
by sheri 14 Feb '12

14 Feb '12

The forecast looks like rain for sure, before, during or after, and so I am taking this gamble and canceling the ride since it is hard for most people to check at last second. If for some reason we wake up to a sunny, 70 degree day, let's run with that miracle! Sheri

Future Non-CVC Red Ride announcement: Saturday, 2-25-11
by Jim Doane 13 Feb '12

13 Feb '12

Hi All: Some of our friends/club members from Strava have created a 100 mi. Red Ride similiar to this year's Santa Barbara Century ride and asked if I would announce it should other CVC'ers want to join them. Note: This IS NOT meant as an official CVC Away Ride - just a co-operative, courtesy ride announcement should you'd like to join them. Saturday, 2-25th 9:00am Rincon Beach parking lot start point ( Bates Rd. exit off # 101 frwy) (where the Cool Breeze Century has their rest stop) Here is the recommended route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/930430 Some ride route notes: Start at Rincon Beach. ( Bates Rd. exit off # 101) It is easy to find, has ample free parking, bathrooms and water. It sounds like our group has the potential to be 20 or 25 people and this place would easily accommodate us. It also gives us several miles to warm up before the crazy climbing begins. The actual climbing on the route is closer to 8,500 feet. ridewithgps.com likes to overestimate the climbing. Some parks are marked along the way that have water and bathrooms. There are additional places but the ones marked seemed to be at good distances. This will be a self supported ride but there are several places we can stop along the way to buy snacks, etc. if needed. I am not aware of any places to refill water once we get up to Mountain Rd and Gibraltar through Painted Cave. It should not be too warm that day but you never know. Be prepared with plenty of water for this section as most of the climbing is in this 30 mile section of the route. There are several areas where you can turn back early if you would like to do a shorter ride. Remember though that you have to know how to get back on your own. I personally won't be on this ride but I understand that there are at least 4-5 CVC'ers who plan on riding it. Jim Doane - CVC Red Ride Leader

by Kent Koral 13 Feb '12

13 Feb '12

Hey MTB'rs, Once again, due to the rain in the forecast, we will ride our stalwart damp weather trail, Space Mountain. If you don't have Valentines Day plans, come out and ride. I wont be riding this week. Meet at the trail head at the south end of Moorpark Rd at 6PM. Most of our rides are approximately 10 miles and last under 2 hours. The Tuesday MTB night ride is a intermediate paced ride. lets stay together and have a fun safe time. Be sure to have a light capable of lighting a dark trail and lasting at least 2.5 hours and bring a spare tube & pump at a minimum. See you out there. Kent Koral CVC Ride Director 818-802-0826

CVC Members Ride Planning Meeting
by Kent Koral 12 Feb '12

12 Feb '12

Hi CVC Members, The ride committee is working at finding ways to expand our rides and options by holding a informal planning meeting on Wednesday, 2/15/2012 <x-apple-data-detectors://0> at: The City of Westlake Village Community room at 7:00PM<x-apple-data-detectors://1> . Come on out and get involved in your rides. At this meeting we'd like club member input to discuss: 1) Creating new and varied club rides ( all colored rides & away rides routes & places) 2) Establishing a rotating core of club ride leaders - so no "one" person has too much leadership committment Ride leaders can announce the rides, organize the riders on the day of the ride, keep track of riders at the re-group spots, assist with mechanical issues and/or communicate change of route to others in the group should a rider stop their ride. The more members we have to do this - the easier, more organized and consequently, more fun all of our rides become. It is very valuable & beneficial to us to have club member input and support with our club rides and we encourage you to attend this informational and idea gathering meeting with our goal in mind of creating more fun rides and increased member camaraderie. Please RSVP to me at :kentkoral@gmail.com Thank you for your interest & co-operation in furthering our club motto of : "The Friendly Club" Kent Koral Ride Director Conejo Valley Cyclists
