I'm going to continue sending out a weekly update rather than a blanket
indefinite hiatus. Some day hopefully sooner than later, we will get to
ride together again.
In the meantime, please follow local regulations and cdc guidelines.
And if you are going to ride outside consider the following: please ride by
yourself and note that you need to be ultra-careful while riding, because
if you get hurt you may be taking medical resources away from someone who
really needs it.

From League of American Cyclists:
As always, thank you so much for supporting the League of American
Bicyclists as a member bike club. With concerns and strategies over
limiting the spread of COVID-19 circulating online, we wanted to take
the opportunity to offer some resources for riding under current
conditions. Here at the League, we're no strangers to taking dramatic
measures to limiting the spread of the virus, having cancelled the
in-person 2020 National Bike Summit this week, and replaced it with
live, online content.
As of March 15, our partners in bicycling at USA Cycling have
recommended races and other gatherings, such as group rides, be canceled
or postponed and is suspending permits on all events through April 5.
They also put together some pointers on riding during this time.
It isn't in our authority to order clubs to cancel organized rides,
although we do recommend rescheduling all events and gatherings.
Our friends at Bicycling Magazine put together a great FAQ on riding
amid COVID-19 concerns, along with an update on ride etiquette. Of
course, solo riding outside is perfectly safe and a good way to stay
healthy, physically and mentally, while practicing social distancing. We
hope you'll take this opportunity to get a breath of fresh air and enjoy
your neighborhood streets.
I added the links above.
Take Care,
Sheri Leiken
Due to recent conditions, there will be no cvc rides next week, 3/16-22.
While I hope this is overly cautious, we must all do our part to aid
containment.
Weather forecast has rain next week, so get your trainers set up. Keep
your social distancing, but keep the body moving as well.

Question of the week: Should I be worried about Corona-virus? I’m not a
health professional, and do not play one on TV. In the flu season and
current conditions, the entire club would prefer you stay at home until you
are healthy. Please remember it’s important and simple common courtesy to
keep your bodily fluids to yourself. Snot rockets should only be ejected
after pulling off the back of the group.
Safety Tip of the Week: Announce Hazards-When riding in a tight group,
most of the cyclists do not have a good view of the road surface ahead, so
it is important to announce holes, gravel, grates, and other hazards.
Indicate road hazards by pointing down to the left or right, and by
shouting “hole,” “bump,” “pine cone”, etc. Everyone in a group should be
made aware of hazards.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders
your intentions
· we are a "rules of the road" cycling club
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining
or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club
ride.
Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions;
however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride

It MAY be the only good time and day we have! IF the streets are totally
wet, I will cancel, but... the plan is to RIDE as it may be our only time.
It should be nice and dry, so let's go have a good ride!
See you at 3:45!

Hi Members,
The clothing survey in our Primary Election has closed and I am sure you
are all anxious to hear the outcome. To be fair, since our candidates were
pretty close in the popular vote, we are going to have a second vote and
eliminate the bottom choice.
We will now be asking you to vote again based on the following choices. I
am asking you to vote again and if we get landslide results, this may be
it. If not, we will likely have a run-off election.
If you missed voting, here is your chance. If you feel strongly or
otherwise, please chime in as now! *We need accurate results from as many
members as possible!*
*PLEASE VOTE AGAIN to help make the best decision for your club!*

Why did the ride director bonk last Saturday? I don’t know, but it was
awesome. Maybe too heavy of a load midweek. Maybe not enough water.
Maybe jumping in the deep end too early in the season. At the bottom of
Encinal I told the group I’d meet them at the top. As they rode off, I
could hear them asking what was going on and if I was OK. 40 minutes later
I reached the top of Encinal. The little downhill to the 3 b’s helped a
lot, and I rallied back enough to stay with the group the rest of the way.
Spectacular blow up, on a spectacular day.
Safety Tip of the Week: Ride One or Two Across-Ride single file or double
file as appropriate to the roadway and traffic conditions and where allowed
by law. Even where riding double is legal, courtesy dictates that you
single up when cars are trying to pass you if the lane is wide enough for
them to safely do so.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
