Hey CVC!
It is time!
Time for what?
Time for our new club kit! 5 years have gone by quick and we have been in
the planning stages since last summer and now is the time!
A great team has worked together through trial and error and success to
bring you 4 amazing choices to vote on!
You will take this ONE question survey with the attached link and you will
select your favorite style.
As you know, you may not be guaranteed that what you have voted on will
win. But remember, YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
Once we select the most voted upon jersey, we will finish up with our
coordinating bib and shorts and accessories. The thought on shorts is black
with a leg band of coordinating color from the jersey. I anticipate in the
next few weeks we will have a full range of samples that you will be highly
encouraged to try on for size and you will go home to purchase your items
in a secure on line store.
>From there, it is about 6-8 weeks once we place an order, so by summer, we
will be looking real good!
We have 3 designs but a few of the designs are offered in different colors.
One has multi color, but is the same design, so we left it in as a 4th
option since it is so totally different.
It is hard to imagine a flat jersey looking good, but try to picture the
jersey filled out in dimension. They will look much better on!
Please see the link and choose one. You will not be putting them in an
order and you will not be choosing your color today. Some slight
adjustments to the style may be made such as sleeve band size, etc.
If you have questions or comments, please email me.
Be sure to click the link below for your vote!

Let's end this vote by SuperTuesday, March 3rd.
Thank you,

Question of the week: How fast should I go downhill? Slower than you are
comfortable with. Maybe it’s because I’m not a great descender, but I
don’t chase PR’s downhill. A lot of our canyons have blind turns where you
cannot see if there is sand on the road, a slow-moving car, or a loose
table saw blocking the road. Descend with caution.
Safety Tip of the Week: Two at The End-For safety and as a courtesy, if
the group spreads out, the last two people should adjust their speed to
ride as a pair. If either should need assistance, they will have a helping
hand.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders
your intentions
· we are a "rules of the road" cycling club
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining
or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club
ride.
Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions;
however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride

Question of the week: How can I avoid crashing? The only way to truly
avoid a crash is to not ride. The club had a bad crash last weekend
involving two riders on the red ride, and I don’t think there was much they
could have done to avoid it. I did not see it unfold, but the basic
details were punctured tires due to rocks in the road, while traveling
along PCH. I feel terrible for the riders, but am compelled to mention the
incident, hoping we can take pause and ride as safely as possible. As a
reminder:
1.
1. Watch for road debris, and call it out loudly
1.
2. Leave yourself room if evasive maneuvers are necessary
1.
3. Be sure to carry ID and emergency contacts on you (like a Road ID)
2.
4. Navigate around obstacles, not through them
Safety Tip of the Week: Stay on the right side
<http://www.marc.org/bikeped/sharetheroad.htm> of the lane-Ride in a
single-file line with other cyclists (not two or three abreast) if the
street is too narrow for cars to pass. Cyclists are allowed to ride in
the middle of the lane to increase visibility. Keep an eye out for parked
cars (or rather, doors from parked cars opening into the street). Avoid the
dreaded door-into-cyclist snafu by staying a little bit closer to the
center of the street if there are parked cars. Also, move towards the left
side of the lane when turning left. Stay out of drivers’ blind spots
<http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/cycling-guide/section3.3.shtml>,
especially
at traffic lights or stop signs.
