Question of the week: Should I Nosco? Yes! This is the one external
event that CVC supports each year. We have unanimously voted to donate
funds from our Cruisin/Picnic ride for several years. CVC members *kit up*
on the ride to show our club support. There are 3 different options, all
starting at Dos Vientos community center, down Potrero, pausing at the
memorial site, then along PCH. You can return via Mullholland (48 miles),
Latigo (62 miles), or the full monty climbing Deer Creek/Mully/Latigo (82
miles). For the procrastinators in the club, you can register for the
event the day of. Hope to see you there.
Safety Tip of the Week: Be Predictable-Group riding requires even more
attention to predictability than riding alone. Other riders expect you to
ride straight, at a constant speed, unless you indicate differently. Along
with hand signals, verbally warn cyclists of your changes in direction or
speed. The lead rider should call out “left turn,” “right turn,” “slowing,”
stopping,” etc. Announce a turn well in advance of the intersection, so
that members of the group have time to position themselves properly. Riding
in a predictable fashion
<http://www.bikeleague.org/resources/better/roadrules.php> also makes it
easier for cars to go around (and not into) you.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders
your intentions
· we are a "rules of the road" cycling club
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining
or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club
ride.
Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions;
however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride

Hey CVC'rs,
I am sure that all of you are as excited (or petrified, in my case) as I am
about the Nosco Memorial ride this Sunday.
So let's make sure to show our club pride by wearing our CVC club kits at
the ride. This is a big chance for us to show what an incredible, and
fabulous group we are as one of the top cycling clubs in
Southern California.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday resplendent in your CVC
best!!!
See you on the road and trail,
Kent Koral

Question of the week: Why should I core? Core work is important for
everyone in all sports. As cyclists we think about our legs often. We
feel the pain in our legs while climbing, and the next day after a
particularly hard effort. The heart gets attention while we are bent over
the bars trying to catch our breath. How often do you think about your
core? Core strength will help riding strength, and comfort while on the
bike. Pick at least one day a week to incorporate these exercises into
your routing and watch the results speak for themselves.
Safety Tip of the Week: Move Off the Road When You Stop-Whether you are
stopping because of mechanical problems or to regroup with your pals, move
well off the road so you don’t interfere with traffic. It is usually best
for the lead rider to pull forward in the stopping area and for other
riders to pull in behind the rider in front of them. When you start up
again, each cyclist should look for, and yield to, traffic.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots

Come on out in this beautiful weather for an afternoon spin! Tomorrow
promises to be a bit cooler before the winds kick in again.
We meet at the parking lot to the landing ready to roll by 3:45 for about a
20 mile route of a gold+ pace.
See you there!

Due to the huge response on the clothing, I cannot guarantee I have any
size from one minute to the next. I have had numerous email responses and
so the best I can do is say, please come over between 6 and 6:30 tonight to
see what I have left in your size.
After that, I will post what is left if anything.
Please email for address.
Thank you!

Hey CVC'ers,
Don't have a CVC Jersey? I have a limited amount left and would be happy to
sell them at a discounted price.
We will be getting new clothing around March, so you certainly have
enough time to get plenty of use out of them AND... they will be good back
up jerseys for those 2 days in a row rides!
In women's, I have:
1 jacket L
1 Medium Jersey
1 bib small
Men-I have more variety, maybe 2 of each size. M, L, and XL.
Plus..... I have our older vintage style, that we can let go for $20 each.
Let me know what you are looking for.

Question of the week: Have you thanked our CVC club president lately?
Let’s not make this a “thankless job”. I couldn’t even tell you all the
things Sheri does behind the scenes, but I know it takes time and patience
to deal with all of us. Thank you, Sheri.
Safety Tip of the Week: Watch Out at Intersections-When approaching
intersections requiring vehicles to yield or stop the lead rider will say
“slowing” or “stopping” to alert those behind to the change in speed. Do
not call out “clear”. Each cyclist is responsible for verifying that the
way is clear before entering the intersection. Signal well and make eye
contact with drivers before making a turn or slowing down.
