Dear Cycling Friends,
Thank you for your support of bike lanes along Potrero Road in Hidden
Valley. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors held a Bike Lane Study
Session on May 23rd and received many of your thoughtful comments. Some of
you had written in support of Potrero Road bike lanes more than a year ago,
and I want to let you know that your comments proved to still be important
to our decision-making process. The Board of Supervisors displayed
unanimity in its support for adding new bike lanes and paving unpaved
shoulders, particularly on roads like Potrero where there is heavy bike
traffic and substandard lane widths. The Board committed to a plan to get
all six CMAQ (Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality) bike lane projects
completed, and Potrero is on that list, in part because of your strong
support. I look forward to getting back to you with a timeframe for when
this bike lane will be added.
Overall, the Board agreed at our Study Session to add more than 40 miles of
bike lanes to roads in the unincorporated county, at a cost of close to $14
million.
Again, thank you for speaking up! I look forward to continuing to work
together to make Ventura County even more bicycle friendly. Also, if
interested, please save the date for our next Santa Monica Mountains
Bicycle Roundtable on June 15th 12-1:30 in the Oak and Park Rooms at
Thousand Oaks City Hall. An invite and RSVP request will be going out
shortly. If you’re not already on the Roundtable list and would like to be
added, please let Damon Wing in my office know.
With appreciation,

Hello CVC Riders,
June is around the corner and this marks the beginning of our Summer Pub
Rides. For those of you who do not know what Summer Pub Rides are, this
ride is a weekly weekday ride where we begin from a different eating/social
establishment each week. We generally meet at 5:30.
It is fun to socialize and refresh after the ride on those warm summer
evenings. This has been a traditional favorite of many and we hope to
continue to make it great this year as well. Some come for just the
socializing, some have their significant others meet us after the ride, and
some just ride, and others, well, they ride, eat, and re-hydrate and enjoy
ALL the fun times throughout the summer.
I am gathering a quick survey as to the time and would prefer to do this
through survey monkey so that it does the tabulating for me.
Please fill out the quick survey as soon as possible so that a decision on
dates can be made and announced.
Thanks so much,
Sheri Leiken
CVC President

WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT
Hey CVC,
We have a perfect weekend for riding - sunny and cooler in the 70s both days! It's high summer though, so drink, drink, drink. Join us for some rides, or be safe on your travels this Memorial weekend.
On Saturday we have three rides. The Red Ride is doing a nice Simi loop and adding Box Canyon and an up-n-back on Woolsey Canyon. The Orange Ride is doing a Simi loop as well, but from the Calabasas side over Santa Suzanna and back through Simi and TO. The Gold ride is doing an up-n-back on Carlisle Canyon, then doing a loop around to Big Sky via TO and returning home over Westlake.
On Sunday the Red Ride is heading for Dos Vientos park through Hidden Valley, with a return loop around Wildwood and Westlake. The G.O. Ride is doing a lake lap before doing a Lake Malibu loop, then continuing on to Mulholland and 7-minute Hill. And the social ride is going to Lake Malibu up Cornell and adding a little loop up toward the Rock Store and a Westlake lap after coming home.
We've also got midweek rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, including the our famous Rock Store Race Ride (with moderat-paced options), a Wednesday afternoon spin with Sheri and challenging destination rides Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
When riding with your groups, please be very verbal and watch for debris in the bike lanes. Always warn riders behind you of everything approaching! You are their eyes when you are on the front.
Our Purple and Newcomer rides are getting a good turn-out. Please help spread the word and bring friends! Our next Purple ride is scheduled for June 3rd. We can also put together a Purple ride anytime. Contact me or Sheri. Come join us and bring family and friends.
Let me know if I can help with anything bike or ride-related. I always have extra gear, nutrition, supplies and my toolbox, pump, etc.
And let's ride!

If there is a marked bike lane, cyclists may ride shoulder to shoulder. Single file otherwise. There is no three or four abreast at any time while moving. If you are wearing a CVC kit, you represent the club, so please be sure to follow the rules of the road. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians* Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador
PARKING
Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together.
If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader.
Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.
Come on and get your mid-week spin on!
Going out for about a 20-22 mile ride Wednesday afternoon. Meeting at the
