PLEASE RSVP!
I know it is Halloween day but we will have an afternoon ride and be back
by 5:30, before the Trick or Treaters come. But I want to make sure there
will be riders out there with me needing a mid week spin! We will leave by
3:45-3:50 and go for about 18-20 miles!
Looking forward to seeing you 👺ghouls and goblins,🚲

While not an official CVC ride, I encourage our members to be a part of
this great cause and ride. https://mikenosco.com/
It is always on Nov 3, the day of Mike's passing, and this year it's a
Saturday. I also want to point out to all not familiar with the ride,
there are 3 routes.
The full monty is 81 miles, 9,000 ft of climbing: Potrero, PCH, up Deer
Creek, dn Yerba, up Mullholland, dn Encinal, up Latigo, Hidden Valley
https://www.strava.com/routes/23306
shorter option 1 is 62.5 miles 5400 ft of climbing: Potrero, pch, up
Latigo Hidden Valley https://www.strava.com/routes/13990405
shorter option 2 is 47 miles 3700 ft of climbing: Potrero, pch, up
Mullholland. https://www.strava.com/routes/13990ley280
These are challenging routes, but it is a fun atmosphere not a race. You
can sign up the day of, and the fee is donation based.
Let me know if you have any questions, I will be doing Full Monty with
Graybird in tow.

Question of the week: Can you ride your bike without electronics?
This is a challenge for everyone. One day this week, go out on a ride and
don’t turn on your cycling computer. No power meter, cadence, speed or
Strava. Go out and ride by feel. If you feel great that day, push
yourself. If your legs feel like lead, stroll around. Enjoy your ride.
Appreciate the fact you are blessed to have the time and physical ability
to ride. Every ride should not be about chasing a PR.
At the end of your ride make a manual entry on Strava. Distance 1 mile,
elevation 1 foot, duration 1 minute. Title the ride “old Skool”. Cvc members
will know what you did and others will ask what it means.
*When riding with us:*
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club
policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and
ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an
official club ride.

Question of the week: What is the proper call when sighting Greybird on
PCH?
Susan! Ash! Go Greybird! Are you a friendly rider, spreading happiness
while you pedal? Relish in your time on the bike, and smile. Even on the
most challenging days, there should be a smile under your helmet. Give a
wave as you pass fellow cyclists. Give a thank you wave when cars stop for
you. Sure, they have to stop, but it’s important to thank them for the
effort. A new approach that my teen shared with me is the “thumbs up”
whenever you feel like giving “the bird”. It confuses people, and
diffuses many
situations. Always try and be a good bike ambassador, it benefits us all.

Black Ride:
Black ride is something new to try for every 2nd Sunday of the month. It’s
meant to be an “everyone gets dropped” ride. It is designed for
faster/stronger riders, but truthfully anyone can participate at their own
100%. Slow roll to start of first segment, then go your 100% to the end of
the segment. Slow roll to the next, 100% as long as you can. You can also
call this is HIT (high intensity training). When going at your 100% be
extremely cautious of yourself and proximity to other riders. Full effort
segments are not downhill, or crossing intersections. You should be dead
tired at the end of this ride, but over time this route will make you
stronger.
Shut up legs-Jens
Question of the week: What kind of rider do you want to be?
Since you have thought about what kind of rider you are, now think about
what kind of rider you want to be. What goals do you have left to fulfill
for the year? What long term goals have you set for yourself? One of the
great things about riding with a club is the vast experience and
experiences our riders have. If you want to be faster or stronger, ask
someone stronger than you what they did to get to their level. If your
goal is to complete the Mulholland Challenge or even MC Double, ask someone
what is was like. How did they train for the event? What mistakes did
they make, and what did they learn?
*When riding with us:*
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise

The new ride director is taking a conservative approach and cancelling
official cvc rides.
The roads are wet, and since this is the first rain in a long time the
roads may be slippery.
Feel free to get out and ride on your own if the streets clear up.
