Question of the week: Do I have time for a ride on Sunday before the
game? Yes, but don’t start out too late. Better to be off the road by the
time those “other” sports fans are racing to get to their destination. GO
Niners!
Safety Tip of the Week: Be Predictable-Group riding requires even more
attention to predictability than riding alone. Other riders expect you to
ride straight, at a constant speed, unless you indicate differently. Along
with hand signals, verbally warn cyclists of your changes in direction or
speed. The lead rider should call out “left turn,” “right turn,” “slowing,”
stopping,” etc. Announce a turn well in advance of the intersection, so
that members of the group have time to position themselves properly. Riding
in a predictable fashion
<http://www.bikeleague.org/resources/better/roadrules.php> also makes it
easier for cars to go around (and not into) you.
When riding with us:
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders
your intentions
· we are a "rules of the road" cycling club
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining
or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club
ride.
Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions;
however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride

Question of the week: Should I go all out? Maybe not. I sure wish someone
had reminded me this a few weeks ago. If you have lightened your training
load over the holidays, be sure to ease back into it. I have been feeling
good, and maybe pushed too hard, too soon. The left knee has been barking,
and no dog treats in sight.
Safety Tip of the Week: Move Off the Road When You Stop-Whether you are
stopping because of mechanical problems or to regroup with your pals, move
well off the road so you don’t interfere with traffic. It is usually best
for the lead rider to pull forward in the stopping area and for other
riders to pull in behind the rider in front of them. When you start up
again, each cyclist should look for, and yield to, traffic.

Hi Members,
It's time for the first CVC Meeting of the year?
Club meetings are one of your benefits as a member of Conejo Valley
Cyclists, so come on out, learn more about your club, the cycling world,
and hang for a bit with your CVC peeps!
Adding a bit more knowledge is always a good thing, and it is always fun to
get together!
Our first club meeting will be held at Win's Wheels on January 22nd, at
7:00 pm
There will be snacks and drinks.
Come meet Stuart from Watts Up,(not to be confused with What's App).
Here is some info on Watts Up:
Watts Up Training provides structured indoor training for people who
want to maximize their training time on the bike. We provide custom
built training sessions designed to improve your cycling performance.
Website: https://wattsuptraining.bike/
*Win of Win's Wheels* will also be there to answer questions regarding bike
maintenance and the most neglected things he sees on bikes.
We will talk about the upcoming year with CVC and have a Q & A session!
Lots of fun ahead. Come find out how you can be more involved in CVC!
Folding lawn chairs are a great item to bring as he does not have chairs
in the shop.
When you see Bob Muzio, please give him a special thanks for setting
this up for us!
See you on Wednesday, the 22nd!
