Question of the week: What’s your favorite cycling quote?
“It never gets easier, you just get faster" - *Greg LeMond* “The race is
won by the rider who can suffer the most" - *Eddy Merckx* “If you go (with
a break), you can either win or not win. If you don’t go for it, you
definitely won’t win" - *Jens Voigt*
“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him
for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid
and boring" - *Desmond Tutu*
Please email yours to me.
*When riding with us:*
· wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
· stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file
otherwise
· not overlap wheels
· descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight
bends, and slick spots
· pass slower riders on the left
· ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
· avoid bunching up
· respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles,
cyclists, and pedestrians
· Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is
either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club
policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and
ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an
official club ride.

Question of the week: What does “shut up legs” mean, and should I follow
that philosophy?
Jens Voigt was one of cylcling’s superstars. Mere mortals should have
different expectations and needs of the body. While many of us want to
push ourselves to achieve results, me must listen to what our body is
telling us. Slow and heavy legs may be telling us we are over training.
some professional cyclists recommend around 80% of your training should be
endurance work, 20% interval training. During these short burst intervals
is when you can yell back at your legs as they tear down and rebuild
stronger.

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Also, we wanted to remind you of the Conejo Valley Cyclists holiday party.
Please be sure to RSVP.
We will continue our tradition of donating to Manna. They have definitely
taken a hit due to the other emergencies. There will be a box at Twisted
Oak, where you can drop off your food/paper good donations.
See you soon,

I will continue watching the weather, but looks like the rain will not be
as intense as originally thought.
Meeting time at the landing has been moved up to 9am.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

Question of the week: What can I do to help, who will help me?
There are several ways to help our fellow residents with the recent crises.
Aid for Affected Residents:
The United Way of Greater Los Angeles is partnering with United Way of
Ventura County to collect donations for its its Disaster Relief Fund
<https://www.unitedwayla.org/en/give/disaster-relief-fund/>.
https://www.unitedwayla.org/en/give/disaster-relief-fund/
The CCF Wildfire Relief Fund <https://www.calfund.org/wildfire-relief-fund/>
supports immediate recovery efforts for major California wildfires, as
well as long-term preparedness efforts.
https://www.calfund.org/wildfire-relief-fund/
Animal Rescues:
The Humane Society of Ventura County is accepting animals evacuating from
the Hill and Woolsey fires. You can also donate directly to the organization
<https://www.hsvc.org/donate> or purchase items like food and toys
through their
Amazon wish list <https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2LHNG8JV4F1V0>
.
https://www.hsvc.org/donate
If you are needing help of any kind, reach out to your fellow cyclists.
Don’t try and do it all alone. I’ve got a power washer and a lot of elbow
grease.

Cvc'rs, due to fires in our area, we are cancelling our cvc rides Saturday
and Sunday. Too many people are affected, and will not be paying attention
to us vunerable riders.
If you do go out and ride on your own, please be extra cautious. The wind
has blown a lot of debris on the roads, drivers will be distracted, and
emergency vehicles will be racing to help others.
Living in so cal, we know another great riding day is around the corner, no
need to put ourselves at additional risk.
I live in Moorpark, clear of the fire. If anyone needs a place to shower,
rest, or sleep who has been affected by the fire, please email or call me.
I'm working from home today, and the door is open.

Question of the week: What’s the deal with “new bike I-tis"?
Why are we faster if blessed with a new bike purchase? It has to be
mental. Can a bike make you 10% faster and stronger overnight? You’ve
seen your pal that strolls up to the ride on the new steed, and they are at
the front all day. Is it magic? I can’t explain it, but I have
experienced firsthand stomping all prior accomplishments with a new bike.
Do you need one? No. Do you want one? Yes. Most important is to be sure
you get permission first. N+1 is an awesome formula, as long as it does
not become N+1*DH2.
Number of bikes owned + 1 *Dog House squared
