Hi Gold Riders, We will start this Tuesday evening gold ride to the Rock Store from Citibank location to Malibou Lake - Rock Store - Mulholland Hwy - Decker Canyon - around Westlake Lake. 25 + miles with 2,100' of climbing. Starting at 5:15pm Same route as the Tuesday Red Ride (without upper Encinal Canyon). Re-group at: Cornell / Mulholland and top of Rock Store. Hey CVC Mountain Bike Riders, This Tuesday the Intermidiate/Advanced Mountain Bike ride will ride Cheeseboro. Meet in the parking lot on Cheeseboro Canyon North of Driver Ave. Be ready to ride at 6pm. Routes to be determined. Most of our rides are approximately 8-15 miles and last around 1.5-2 hours. This is an intermediate/advanced paced ride. Lets stay together within our groups, and have a fun safe time. At this point you probably wont need to use a light except in case we get caught out late. Tuesday Morning Ride 8:30

Hi Everyone! Ok, we have some choices to make. Here are 2 options for the 8:30 ride! 1. Malibu Lake via Agoura to to Juan Bautista to Mullholland, over Mullholland and around Malibu Lake, return idea, Chesbro to Kanan to Lindero to T.O Blvd. to Lakeview, around Lake and back. Heat will be in Agoura by 11. 2. Hidden Valley/Dos Vientos if the weather seems as if it will be too hot. Both about 28-30 miles. Please email me your choice and let the majority rule... The Tuesday morning ride is a gold/orange level pace with average of about 15+ mph. Rides vary from 25-35 miles. Tuesday morning is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun,safe ride. Come ride with this great group of people! Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. See you there. CVC Sunday Purple Ride 9:00around the lake to Potrero through Hidden Valley and back Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village. Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) This Saturday, the Purple ridewill be riding around the lake to Potrero through Hidden Vallet and back Hi Purple Riders, This week we will be riding around the lake to Potrero through Hidden Vallet and back and stopping as needed. Water and restroom at Fire Station 33.. This ride will be making frequent regroups and is a no drop ride; however, please inform the ride leader if you are not planning on riding the entire route. Be sure to print out a route slip if you are unfamiliar with the area. The ride is 16.8 miles with 988 ft. of climbing. No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire. Please check your bike prior to Saturday and make any necessary repairs. Although the Purple ride is a "no drop" ride, for the enjoyment and safety of the participants, we will try to keep a 12-14 MPH average. If you feel you are not Purple ready, but want to work up to the Purple level, please contact the Ride Captain who will gladly give you some pointers and advise. We strongly recommend that you come out and meet the riders! The best stepping stone to grow into a Purple rider is to ride around Westlake! When you can sweep those 5 flat miles at a steady 12 to 14 mph pace, and still feel ready for more, then you will be able to handle many of the standard Purple routes. I have now put into process the beginning of our next custom club clothing order. CVC branded Items will be available for order: * Jerseys (Short Sleeve / Full Zipper) * Bib-shorts * Shorts * Wind jackets * Arm warmers (available in black/white color scheme) * Skull cap This order will close on August 5, 2012. By that date we will need to have a completed order form as well as payment in full for your order. The order will be submitted the order on August 6th to the manufacturer (Canari) which means the order will be delivered by the middle of September. Thursday August 2nd - Malibu Lake Ride (Start Westlake @ 5:30 pm)‏

Come on out and join CVC next Thursday August 2nd for the Malibu Lake Ride. Please see the route slip for details. The Ride starts at 5:30 p.m. Harlene Roen will be leading this ride as I will be away. Thanks Harlene! ROUTE: Malibu Lake + optional Mulholland East extension DISTANCE: 20-25 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph. NO DROPS: I wait for the slowest rider at strategic points along the route. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: If a QUORUM is present, the Post-Ride Picnic will begin around 7:15 p.m. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. QUESTIONS: Email Harlene at harlene.roen(a)gmail.com SAFETY NOTES: 1. A helmet is mandatory. I.D., water or sports drink, a snack, spare tube(s), CO2 cartridges or hand pump, patch kit, cell phone are recommended.2. Please do not call out "clear" at intersections. The intersection may not be clear for the rider(s) behind you.3. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know at a regroup stop or leave me a message (cell: 908-432-3480).4. Seasonal safety issues:- Be prepared for heat. Stay hydrated. Carry a sports drink or capsules to keep your electrolytes in balance. Drink before you feel thirsty. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance if you see another rider exhibiting these signs.- The tar used to repair asphalt roads can become semi-liquid and slippery on hot days. Example: The Decker/Westlake descent has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar. Use caution when riding over these areas in high heat.- Be prepared for flats. The “Goat’s Head” thorn, a.k.a. “Puncture Vine” a.k.a. Tribulus Terrestris, has returned to the roads we cycle on. Club rides are seeing an increase in flats caused by these thorns. Carry an extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs. CVC Inclement Weather Policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Sunday Social Ride

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, July - 27th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 25-30 miles max. and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. With Mulholland nicely paved from Las Virgenes to Westlake now, let’s do our Malibou Lake route this weekend, either in the normal or reverse direction. The normal direction takes us down Agoura Rd. to a re-group at De Anza Park. South, down Las Virgenes to Mulholland. Lake Vista Dr. and around Malibou Lake, returning via Cornell. The reverse direction is to ride out to Mulholland Hwy via Cornell and do a loop around Malibou Lake returning via Las Virgenes. Even though we are attempting to offer our coolest ride routes during high heat days, some considerations and situations that you should be aware of for riding in high heat in our area: 1) Stay hydrated and be aware to keep your electrolites balanced 2) Road surface conditions: asphalt tar & repair drips become semi liquid and especially slippery example: descending Decker/Westlake has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar Try to ride over them minimizing tire contact 3) Goat head thorns have returned and caused six flats on this past week's Orange ride Carry and extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs 4) Be aware of other riders signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance as applicable e. Then head East down Mulholland Hwy towards Las Virgenes where we will return via Agoura Road. Several optional return routes are available depending on what everyone feels like. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you there!!! CVC Saturday Orange Level Ride -- Saturday July 28th 8:30 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Westlake to PCH returning on Encinal. Weather forecast is for 86 Deg. in TO, at the start the temperature should be in the high 60 Deg. Hi Everyone, On Saturday July 28th. starting at 8:30 AM we are leaving to PCH through Potrero and returning on Encinal, yes we reciently did this ride; however, I am avoiding any routes east of Thousand Oaks in order to reduce heat exposure and have a cooler ride. The first re-group will be at Chanel Island University followed by a stop at Sycamore Cove State Beach for restroom and water; last water stop after the first stinger on Decker. Route: PCH through Potrero to Las Posas to PCH and returning one Encinal Canyon.
