Last week's rides went great. Looking forward to another weekend of great riding. Everyone did a great job of social distancing, so let's keep that up. Please look at your routes ahead of time, and download if you can. This Saturday, we will be enjoying an away ride for Gold/Orange Light/ *The away ride will start at 8:30 am* leaving from the Museum parking lot in Ventura and will travel up to Lake Casitas. Orange Light will continue to Carpinteria via Gobernador. And those who want to turn back can take the gold return route. We will all start out together and you can decide then! There will be a local orange and local red ride. *These local rides start at 8:00 am* Sunday proved to be a Fun day and will continue. Richard will lead the recovery route and Donna will lead the G/O ride. Weekend Rides 6/20-6/21
by Sheri L 18 Jun '20

18 Jun '20

Dear CVC, I would like to thank you all for hanging in there! We are ready to resume riding as a group, but with the obvious needs for safety and social distancing. We have some amazing volunteers who are going to lead rides this next month, but... we will need others to step up as well. Send me an email if you can volunteer for this. This cannot fall on any one person and it will take a team, but in the meantime, please show the appreciation you have for ALL of our leaders of CVC. This club would not work without the help of volunteers at every level! Some of you are not ready to ride in a group, and we understand that. Please jump in when you are. I will be asking week to week about how many plan on riding for planning purposes while we get back rolling again. Thank you to those who responded. Do not feel obligated to stick with what you put on the survey, but, please try and let us know ahead if you make a change. You may have seen the addition of new rides. Tex is helping out with the new Mellow Yellow ride for those who want less distance and less hill climbing right now. This will be helpful for new riders, riders who have been away from riding, riders who just want to do less riding right now, and those going through recovery. This week's Saturday ride line up: Tex-Mellow Yellow Sharon-Gold Richard A/Mark. Orange light Donna-Orange Kent-Red Sunday- Sunday Funday-Mike H G/O Alfonso Sunday Funday is replacing the social ride, but with the same concept only keeping distance. This is a recovery ride or a short spin ride of about 20 or so miles. I am going to ask all of you to ride and plan responsibly as the ride leaders cannot take responsibility for you. They are not providing concierge service (just had to say that). 😆 -*YOU* will need to check the route carefully and print it or download it into your phone or Garmin ahead of time - these rides are drop rides, meaning, if you cannot keep the pace, it is up to you to make your way back -Leaders will give regroup spots to get the group back together-please listen for these in order to stay with your ride - please inform leader if you will be turning back early - CARRY a mask with you (just say for example, a friend offers to help you with a flat..... you both will want a mask on at this time) - riding with a mask or neck gaiter is your option -social distancing is *NOT* an option, it is *mandatory*. This is true before, and after rides, during rides, and at regroups. PLEASE do not make someone feel uncomfortable by getting too close. None of us wants to ask our buddies to back off. Be polite and follow this rule. -make this club work for everyone Mellow Yellow Leader- Tex (Lake Malibou) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/6978032 Gold Leader-Sharon (7 Min.Hill back through Calabasas) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/5809536 Orange Light Leader-Richard (coast with Mully return) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33043137?privacy_code=IUjxYIE1brVkm9tB Orange Leader-Donna (Old Topanga, Fernwood, Stunt) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/248205 Red Leader-Kent (Old Topaanga, Fernwood, Piuma) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33039513 Sunday Funday (Mike-CVC-King Gillette Ranch Out & Back <https://ridewithgps.com/routes/2896821>) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/2896821 G/O Ride-Leader, Alfonso, (Westlake Mully PCH, Yerba) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/9752350 When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and be cognizant of social distancing · not overlap wheels (crosswheel) · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards . respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride -- Sheri

Weekly Club Rides
by Sheri L 11 Jun '20

11 Jun '20

Hello CVC! We are making plans to roll out as a club beginning June 20th! This coincides with our ride start time change (summer start time 8:00 am) A few things could derail this start day, such as a large increase in Covid Cases or new restrictive orders put out by the County. We will keep you posted if the situation changes. Riding with the club is of course a choice, and we respect those of you who do not yet feel comfortable riding with a group. But we will be here, ready for you when you are. We will be adding ride leaders and a even a new level ride, (thanks to ALL of you who volunteered!). If you are interested in this leadership role, please get back to me as we always need more volunteers. The process is rolling and we are working on changes in the ride leader format as well, (so that not everyone feels they need to be committed to every weekend!) WEEKLY CLUB RIDES Rides will be as follows: - Saturday mornings-8:00 am - Sunday mornings 8:30 am - Away rides 8:30 am Announcements on routes will be sent out on Thursdays. We will be implementing a few other guidelines. The basics start with some safety precautions: -riders MUST respect each other's needs for social distancing when riding - riders MUST respect rules of social distancing when in the parking lot prior to the start of a ride and after the ride --Regroups MUST respect rules of social distancing (Are you getting the idea?) - the use of a face covering at the ride start and wearing and/or keeping that mask with you on the ride is recommended -obviously if you are not feeling well, please stay home - Social Distancing Requirements defined. “Social Distancing Requirements” means and includes maintaining at least a six-foot physical distance from other persons, using hand sanitizer as frequently as possible, covering coughs or sneezes (into the sleeve or elbow, not hands), and not shaking hands. Please do not make someone ask you to give them their space. No snot rockets or spitting. *Remember, this is the last weekend to order the new club kit. Here is the link. * teamstore.ascend sportswear.com/store/conejo-valley-cyclists/ <https://sender3.zohoinsights.com/ocgeturl/2d6f.327230a?l=36c08870-9b83-11ea…> Really excited to get back to our little oasis of cycling paradise. Looking forward to seeing you out there! -- Sheri

Important Information regarding Sunday’s Ride
by Kent Koral 06 Jun '20

06 Jun '20

> To all CVC members, > There have been a few emails that have gone out regarding a ride that is occurring tomorrow. The first was innocently enough a few individuals looking for a simple social ride, the second email went far beyond that and I apologize to anyone that this may have been offended (and we appreciate the dozens of phone calls and emails we received on this matter). It was not caught by those of us that monitor our email system and we apologize for this. As per our CVC bylaws, the CVC is not a platform to discuss politics or philosophy about any issue except those that directly impact cycling. The ride that was discussed in these emails is not a CVC ride as we have not had any group rides since early March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. > If you need more information on our CVC bylaws, and I encourage all of you to look at them, including our AUP, they can be found in the bylaws section of our website at www.cvcbike.org. > Thanks again for understanding. > > > Kent Koral > CVC director of charitable operations. > (818) 802-0826

Club Clothing order info
by Sheri L 05 Jun '20

05 Jun '20

Hi All, Good news is, we should be able to resume riding as a group soon as the state has had some more ease in restrictions. I saw this cool headline today. Reopening California: State to allow schools, pro sports, gyms, bars to begin resuming operations next week I will be working with the CVC B.O.D to come up with some social distancing/safety plans. In the meantime, we are extending the on line ordering for one more week. I am expecting some more samples to arrive but UPS keeps delaying. The company shipped them a week ago and UPS keeps changing their date. So to allow more people to see, we are going to wait. I apologize to those who already placed their order, but it is just one extra week. Remember, if you want to see, I have size Larges in Apex and Volare Elite Jerseys. They can give a good guideline. In bibs/shorts, Apex has more leg compression. Apex has a little shorter sleeve and lower collar, Volare has a longer sleeve, and more standard neck line. But neither of these are event level jerseys. They are both nice fabric, and an upper end level. Race cut is a skin cut, like a skin suit. Here is the website again for your ordering and let me know if you want to come by or have any questions. teamstore.ascendsportswear.com/store/conejo-valley-cyclists/ <https://sender3.zohoinsights.com/ocgeturl/2d6f.327230a?l=36c08870-9b83-11ea…> Sheri

More on club clothing
by Sheri L 29 May '20

29 May '20

Club Clothing..... Sorry for any confusion. Race Fit is BACK by popular demand.... I had too many requests so we are putting it back on. But I am still keeping my same message... the race cut is not just a "race" cut, it is a second skin. Here is a good comparison of the differences. https://www.ascendsportswear.com/custom-cycling-jerseys-comparison/sizing-c… Differences: Apex is a little snugger and lighter than Volare Elite. Not a huge difference, just slight. Volare Elite Sport similar to what we have. Kent is personally going down 1 size (must be all the riding). Relaxed fit will run big... same measurements, but bigger, boxy cut and so it may feel/appear big in your regular size. And Sorry, but on Apex, I did not mean it did not have a collar, it has a shorter collar than traditional jerseys. Look at Ascendsportswear website for a picture. If you feel you want to change your order, just let me know. I know it is hard to shop blindly, but it is what we have to do. Again, I am happy to open my garage for you to look at the jerseys/bibs I have. Again, here is the updated store link. teamstore.ascendsportswear.com/store/conejo-valley-cyclists/ <https://sender3.zohoinsights.com/ocgeturl/2d6f.327230a?l=36c08870-9b83-11ea…> -- Sheri
