Our away ride this week was designed by Bart in 2017. I like it, because I’ll ride from home, get some climbing in, enjoy the lovely beach view, with a relaxing lunch in the middle. It’s also super flat which has B’s name all over it. Drop him an email if you haven’t heard from him in a while, I'm sure he’d love to talk Kom’s. Safety Tip of the Week:  Watch Out at Intersections-When approaching intersections requiring vehicles to yield or stop the lead rider will say “slowing” or “stopping” to alert those behind to the change in speed. Do not call out “clear”. Each cyclist is responsible for verifying that the way is clear before entering the intersection. Signal well and make eye contact with drivers before making a turn or slowing down. When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards · avoid bunching up · respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. This Week's Pub Ride

Happy Monday, CVCers: This Thursday's Pub Ride will begin at Tarantula Hill Brewing Company at 5:30 pm. Tarantula Hill is located at 244 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 - just east of Moorpark Road on the south side of the street (parking is in the rear of the building). It is the very first on-site micro-brewery in Thousand Oaks and opened just a few weeks ago. In fact, it is so new there is no name on the building (the building is black with tinted windows and is quite large…very difficult to miss save for the lack of signage). For those who are familiar, this is the location of the old Plummer’s Furniture Store. So come out and be counted among the Thousand Oaks trendsetters. Let’s meet in the parking lot in the rear of the building. We’ll take off promptly at 5:30, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early. We will try to reserve a table for the group, so even if you cannot make the ride, plan on being there around 7:00-ish for the fun part. Mammoth Trip Details

Hey Members, It is time for us all to start putting together details of the Mammoth trip. If you could send me your name if you are going, if you are going with a S/O, along with your phone and email, I could look at starting to organize if we know the numbers. I will be connecting with some of you to take the lead on certain things. For those of you who are new to the club, a group of CVC'rs are going up to Mammoth for a long weekend, 8/15, and will be doing some hiking and biking and eating... and who knows what else.... everything is booked on your own. Bring out the TRI bike (or not) for a fund day in aero. Question of the week: Are you watching the tour? And how do you watch the tour? Do you avoid spoiler alerts? Do you fast forward so that you can catch up each day? I wish I had the free time to watch 3+ hours of racing for 21 days, but work always gets in the way. I want to keep updated on the progress, so I read news articles in the morning, and then watch the replay as I can. One of the good things about this approach is that I end up with about 2 months or more of premiere cycling to watch. Just remember when going out on a group ride not to spoil it for those that are behind in the action. Extra Shirts from Picnic Ride

Hi All, I still am holding onto these incredible shirts from the Picnic & Benefit ride. If you rode the ride, or donated to the ride, I would love to give you one of these at no charge no matter when you registered, even if it was past the deadline. I mainly have large and extra larges. (maybe one or two mediums). They are super nice long sleeve lightweight performance shirts. If you would like to purchase one for $15, the money will go straight into our charity donations. This Week's Pub Ride

LadyFace is located at 29281 Agoura Rd, Agoura Hills, CA 91301 - just west of Kanan on the north side of the street (same parking lot as Jack-in-the-Box and Islands). Let’s meet in the parking lot directly in front of the restaurant’s entrance. We’ll take off promptly at 5:30, so be sure to arrive a few minutes early. Here is the route we’ll be taking: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30490558 This ride is at a social pace, which I understand may have somewhat different meanings to some, but if you’re looking for a ride where you can really hammer, this is not it. We have a table reserved on the patio after the ride and everyone can order their own food/libations as desired (the Mac-n-Cheese is to die for). So even if you cannot make the ride, plan on being there afterward for the fun part. That’s sun tan lotion, and I highly recommend it for everyone. We are already embarrassing our kids and family by the tight and colorful lycra we are wearing; Dr’s recommend 30 or higher SPF and to re-apply every hour. This eliminates the stinging eyes for me. Apply liberally, don’t be afraid to go “kabuki” with the face. Speaking of the face, those of us with blue eyes can be sensitive to lotions, so I us Coppertone baby suntan lotion on my face. No more tears. Safety Tip of the Week:  Watch for and Avoid Road Hazards-Be on the lookout for hazards such as potholes, broken glass, gravel, puddles, leaves, and dogs. All these hazards can cause a crash. Always ride with at least one hand on the handlebars. Save the “look, Ma, no hands!” tricks for the driveway at home. Carry books and other items in a bicycle carrier or backpack.  In wet weather watch your speed as surfaces may be slippery and it will take you longer to stop.
