Join us for our traditional 4-Lakes Ride and enjoy some of our favorite local areas, with flexible route options for everyone. We will begin with a cruise pace past Lake Eleanor to Carlisle Canyon and Lake Sherwood, then onto complete our Westlake Loop and up Cornell to Lake Malibu. For those with more time and energy, you will be able to add the Carlisle climb, a ride through Hidden Valley with the Treasure HIll climb and/or the Rock Store extension. But it's June so be sure to use sunscreen, drink twice as much and be sure to fill up at all water stops. On Saturday we have 4 ride to choose from, including a Santa Barbara away ride option. The Red Ride will be starting at the Landing and heading for the Rock Store, then down Latigo, up the beach and back up the mountain on Mulholland. The Orange ride will head south along Mulholland to climb Piuma, come back down Stunt, then 7-Minute and home through Calabasas. And we'll have a Purple ride doing an Out-N-Back on Carlisle Canyon. The Gold ride will start in Summerland and ride up into Santa Barbara along the coast. On Sunday we've got three ride options for you. The Red Ride will head out through Hidden Valley to Dos Vientos, then do a nice extension along Sycamore Canyon. The G.O. Ride will be doing the "easy Simi loop" with the addition of the Woolsey climb and Black Canyon descent. And the social ride is doing a nice cruise to Calabasas and Long Canyon before returning down Mureau and over Agoura Road. For the Independence Holiday we have two versions of our popular 4-Lakes Club Ride, with or without the big climbs. We will roll around Westlake, Eleanor, Sherwood and Malibu Lakes. Add Treasure Hill, Rock Store and Lil Sycamore if you've got firecrackers for legs :) We've also got midweek rides Tuesday evening and Thursday morning, as well as the Thursday night Pub Ride. And next week we will continue our Wednesday evening family ride out of Simi Valley. Always be more aware of potential hazards and anticipate dangers when riding with your groups. You are the eyes of everyone behind you and the voice to point out obstacles, vehicles and other dangers - even when you are tucked into the peloton. Plenty of parking at Knolls Park (1300 W Katherine Rd, Simi Valley CA 93063) and we'll have the fire pit, bbq and potluck spread to enjoy. Rollout will be at 6 from the park, or come by my place around 530 to get bikes setup and new rider introductions (1280 Black Canyon, Simi). Also, if you've got an old bike gathering dust in the garage that would make a great beginner or loaner bike, bring it by. There is no three or four abreast at any time while moving.If you are wearing a CVC kit, you represent the club, so please be sure to follow the rules of the road. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians * Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes. ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. Routes will include a 5-miler to Corriganville Park on mountain bikes, and a 15 mile "all bikes welcome" cruise along the Simi Arroyo to the Duck Park. Afterward we will enjoy refreshments and a casual potluck (bring something to nibble or drink). Plenty of parking at Knolls Park (1300 W Katherine Rd, Simi Valley CA 93063) and we'll have the fire pit, bbq and potluck spread to enjoy. Rollout will be at 6pm from the park, or come by my place around 5 or 5:30 to get bikes setup and new rider introductions (1280 Black Canyon, Simi). All bikes welcome, including those mountain bikes, beach cruisers and e-bikes. Also, if you've got an old bike gathering dust in the garage that would make a great beginner or loaner bike, bring it by. Weekend Ride Route Summary SATURDAY - AWAY RIDE TO MOUNT BALDY Both rides meet & depart from the parking lot at the high school in Glendora, Ca (Glendora High School, 1600 E Foothill Blvd, Glendora, CA 91741 - about 1 hour east and South on the 210 fwy). We will all stop at the Lodge at Baldy Village for water refills and restroom break. The harder ride will continue up to the ski lifts and we will all gather at the Buckhorn Lodge for lunch before we all take the return trip down the mountain. The weather should be nice and cool to start and sunny on the way back down. Epic climb and a ride not to be missed! We will also have a Gold local ride out of the Landing on Saturday. Please come join us for the Baldy ride. It's one of the most spectacular in California. On Sunday we've got three ride options for you. The Red Ride will head south through Calabasas to the southern start of Mulholland where it joins Santa Maria and drops down into Topanga Canyon, then back up Old Topanga and rolling home over Mulholland and Cornell. The G.O. Ride will be going through Thousand Oaks over Westlake to Moorpark and up Grimes Canyon, then back over Olsen and down Erbes. And the social ride is heading for Lake Sherwood and a nice cruise through Hidden Valley to the Horse Stables. We've also got midweek rides Tuesday evening and Thursday morning, as well as the Thursday night Pub Ride. And next week we are adding a Wednesday evening family ride out of Simi Valley. We will have a couple groups climbing the mountain that day. It's a nice moderate climb with a stunning ride back down and plans for a nice lunch stop afterwards. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians * Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes. ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Call me BORING but we are doing a repeat…See you at Stonehaus this Thursday. The Summer pub ride has returned! Great time of year. This year's summer fun will be lead by Lisa, Sheri, and Kent. We will be leaving every Thursday from a different establishment so watch for emails. Rides are about 20 miles average and we begin at 5:30. These are social paced rides, so everyone can enjoy. Stay for food, drinks, or anything of your choice, or just come for the "after" festivities. We will be meeting THIS coming Thursday at 5:30 at Stonehaus in Westlake for a nice cruise around Hidden Valley. It's a great ride for an up and back. This ride is being done at a social pace, with a regroup at the fire station and at the end of Hidden Valley Road. Those who want to do an extra climb go ahead and run up Treasure Hill and meet us at the end of Hidden Valley Road. See you at 5:30 at Stonehaus Thursday! We meet in the front by the fountain. Please allow yourself a few minutes to park. Lots of spaces in back. Good friends, drinks and food together afterwards! Bring your helmets, a jacket for after riding, and come on out. You do not have to stay for the festivities if that does not work within your schedule, and you are welcome to join the festivities if riding doesn't work. It is all about summer fun! It will get hot though in places so keep the hydration on doubletime. Be careful of over-exterting yourself later in the day. On Saturday we have four rides. The Red Ride will head directly for Calabasas, come up Mulholland over Cardiac, then drop down 7-Minute then up Stunt and down Piuma. The Orange Ride is rolling out through Hidden Valley, then descending to CSU, south on the PCH and back up Decker before descending Westlake. The Gold Ride is doing a nice loop out Hidden Valley, up the backside on Borchard to Dos Vientos, then a run south on Lynn, over Las Flores and home around the Lake. And the Purple Ride is going to head toward HIdden Valley, but roll along at Westlake and do Carlisle Canyon out-n-back. On Sunday we've got three ride options for you, with everyone eventually heading for the Malibu Lake and Lobo Canyon areas. The Red Ride is doing the big climb direction up Westlake to Mulholland and Encinal Canyon, then Lobo Canyon and home around Lake Malibu. The G.O. Ride will be rolling south along Agoura to Liberty Canyon before heading west through Lost Hills and onto King Gillette, then turning north to Lake Malibu and Lobo Canyon. And the social ride is heading directly for Lake Malibu after a lap around Westlake, south on Agoura to Cornell and up around the Lake then back home the same way. We've also got midweek rides Tuesday evening and Thursday morning, as well as the Thursday night Pub Ride. And in a couple weeks we are adding a Wednesday evening family ride out of Simi Valley. Always be more aware of potential hazards and anticipate dangers when riding with your groups. You are the eyes of everyone behind you and the voice to point out obstacles, vehicles and other dangers - even when you are tucked into the peloton. Keep your spacing generous and focus your efforts on the climbs. Let me know if I can help with anything bike or ride-related. Don't be the one to wonder why the parking lot is empty when you arrive :) Saturday, June 23rd - Away Ride to Mount Baldy This is a renown ride in Southern California beginning in Glendora (about 1 hour drive south and east on the 210 fwy). We will have a couple groups climbing the mountain that day. It's a nice moderate climb with a stunning ride back down and plans for a nice lunch stop afterwards. Mark your calendar and join us for an epic day. Wednesday, June 27th - Family Night Cruise and Potluck BBQs Begin! Join us at the Gypsy Bike Ranch on Wednesday nights for a nice family cruise ride through the rolling hills of Simi Valley. Routes will include a 5-miler to Corriganville Park on mountain bikes, and a 15 mile "all bikes welcome" cruise along the Simi Arroyo to the Duck Park. Afterward we can enjoy refreshments and a casual potluck. Plenty of parking at Knolls Park (1300 W Katherine Rd, Simi Valley CA 93063) and we'll have the fire pit, bbq and potluck spread to enjoy.
