Its Elks BBQ Ride time again!! 9/24/11 after the rides. Hey Gang, I wanted to to give y'all the heads up that 1 week from Saturday we will be having our end of summer Elks BBQ ride. Mark it on your calender as a don't miss event. We ride, then we eat...good BBQ (not that slop I was slingin' at the club bbq). All joking aside, the Elks put it on right. Cant hardly wait. Hey CVCrs Ready for another weekend of riding? I am, and we're almost there!! Below is a re-cap of the rides this weekend and next week. See the ride leaders individual posts on the mail list for more information. Saturday: 8:30am Start at Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at Westlake Bl and Agoura Rd. - Purple: The Agoura/ Oak Canyon route with Terry in for Beth - Gold and Purple Plus: Agoura/Oak Canyon/Thousand Oaks route with Christine in for Lee - Orange: Topanga/Old Topanga with Me - Red: HV/Somis/Balcom/Grimes with Jim Sunday: 9:00am start at Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at Westlake Bl and Agoura Rd. - Purple: Malibou Lake loop with Christine in for Beth - Social: Norwegian/Read Rd with Adam Next Week: - The Tuesday Evening Gold and Red rides - Sheri's Wednesday Afternoon Landing Ride - The Thursday Evening Gold and Red rides - Jan's Thursday Picnic ride There are only a few weeks left before the Picnic ride and the Tuesday/Thursday rides wrap up for the season, so get out and enjoy them while you can. I will be kicking the Tuesday MTB ride back into gear in a few weeks. This seasons edition will be a social paced affair with more friendly, less technical routes than in the past. CVC Saturday Gold Ride, 8:30am, Citibank

*CVC Saturday Gold Ride, September 17, 8:30am Meeting at the Citybank Parking Lot, Westlake Village, (corner of Westlake Blvd & Agoura Rd) *Route: North Ranch CCW. 32 miles with 2,400' climbing Hey Gold Riders, I will not be available for the Gold Ride this Saturday. Going to suggest a very easy route most all of you will know. If there is anyone who would lead the Gold ride will you contact me directly. Basic Route: Leave Citibank towards Cheseboro, up and back on Cheseboro, Kanan Rd to Oak Canyon Community Park, the Multi-use path, Lindero Canyon, Kanan to Westlake, Los Arboles, Erbes, Olsen, Pederson, Hillcrest and back though Pentagon Park. The Gold Ride is an intermediate recreational ride, 30 to 40 miles in length with an average pace of 14 mph. It is not a "no drop" ride but as always let's try to stick together as much as possible. If you are new to CVC or just trying us out please let me know before we start. Remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. If we do not respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere. True or false? - I can ride my bike, garden and pull weeds in my backyard with no back pain? Yes or no? - I can ride my bike 100 miles, but I can't run around the block, let alone wield a chainsaw. Yes or no? The goal is to broaden the perspective of how we use our bodies while on the bike and later when moving in the real world. Rich will introduce some simple exercises and off the bike exercise options to improve your cycling enjoyment that can be implemented immediately. 3) Club committee reports I still have a small quantity of club cycling socks fir $5 a pair. CVC REVISED Saturday Orange Ride 9-17-11 8:30am Citibank Westlak

Hi Everyone, OK, due to the Malibu Triathlon, we will not be able to ride the coast as the race route goes all the way up to Deer Creek this year. Instead we will ride the Topanga/Old Topanga Route CCW. That means we will go out Las Virgines to Mulholland and return via Mureau Rd. For a detailed map and route slip, got to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/713941 As usual, we will meet at the Citibank parking lot and have our pre-ride announcements promptly at 8:30AM prior to splitting into our groups and departing. The Orange ride is an intermediate/advanced recreational ride 40 to 50 miles in length with an average pace of 15+mph. It is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun,safe ride. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Hi CVC'ers For those of us non "Cycling Oregoners" (their Facebook entries look like they're having fun) Let's ride our Somis-Balcom Canyon-Grimes Canyon ride this Saturday Saturday, 9-17th 8:30am Westlake-Hidden Valley-Somis-Balcom Canyon-Grimes Canyon (Westlake Citibank/Sprouts Parking lot - NE Corner Westlake Blvd. & Agoura/Hampshire Rd.'s) Around WL Lake - out through Hidden Valley to the CSCI driveway for 1st re-group. Decide from there who wants to ride with whom for the ride route options: 1) Through College streets to Lewis Rd.- Pleasant Valley Rd/Santa Rosa Rd. to Moorpark Rd. CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride - Sunday September 18th - 9:00am

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride - Sunday September 18th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Note: I will not be able to lead the Social Ride on Sunday as I will be enroute back to Westlake Village from Interbike in Las Vegas. Look for a full Interbike 2011 report to follow! I am sure many of the regular social riders will pick up the slack and lead (Jim Doane?). Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 25-30 miles max. and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. This week we will go Norwegian Grade style with a Read Road Bypass return! After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Thursday Bike ride/picnic - Malibou Lake loop

C'mon out, weather should be perfect! If you haven't ridden with us yet, you'd better hurry - we may only do this ride for a few more weeks...and when the ride ends, the picnics end! :-( *Thursday, September 15th, 5:30 p.m.* (Around-the-lakers can start at any time - picnic @ ~7:00) Westlake Village Start (directions below) *Route:* Lake Malibou - Triunfo to Westlake, right to Agoura Rd, right to Cornell, right, and up Cornell to Mulholland; around Lake Malibou and back the same way. Other alternatives back are up Rock Store or Troutdale and up Kanan. For CVC'rs, longer ride is between a "gold" and "orange" level. No drops. I wait for the slowest rider. *RIDE START:* Triunfo Road just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building in Westlake Village. (From the 101 Fwy, take Lindero Cyn. south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards…where there's grass, sidewalk, the lake…and park along the curb. Picnic is here after the ride.) *TIME:* Those wishing to get in ~20 miles, 5:30, ready to ride. Those just going around the lake can show up at any time. *PICNIC:* After riding - picnic starts around 7:00 p.m. *WHAT TO BRING:* *HELMET *AND BIKE! For picnic, bring something to share (cheese, crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever…), a beverage (and something to drink it in if you don't want to drink out of the bottle), something to SIT on and a warm jacket. Also bring any friends, neighbors, relatives, S.O.'s and anyone else who might like to join us (preferably with bikes). Don't forget spare tubes, water bottles, etc. *ROUTES:* Longer ride: Routes will include Hidden Valley, Lake Malibou, North Ranch, and wherever. Around the lake: cruise around the lake in wide bike lanes…no left turns…~5 miles each loop…all flat, no discernible hills. CVC Saturday Purple Ride -- Saturday Sept 17th - 8:30amMeeting at Citibank Parking Lot -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Saturday will be a variation on one of our regular rides - so be SURE to check out the map! Purple ride leaders / sweepers will be Terry and DK, so seek them out! The Purple ride is 20.3 miles with about 1143' climbing See http://ridewithgps.com/routes/712929 Purple will start out immediately after Gold rolls.Optional loop around Westlake at the end of the ride for 5 more smooth miles! Please Note that the first 15 miles of the Purple route is the same as the Gold - if you want to start off on Gold & give it a try, you can drop back to Purple within those first 15 miles, no problem. The Purple ride is a beginner club ride with a 12-13 mph average pace but is open to all levels. No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire.
