by Jim Doane 16 Apr '12

16 Apr '12

Hi CVC'ers: Even though the weather has jinxed our last two attempts at Away Rides we've decided to offer a shorter driving distance - Away Ride with a familiar route so that we'll have an Away Ride for April (before our Cruisin' the Conejo 5-5-12 event) Note that the ride options available on this ride can correspond to the standard ride definitions of our different Club's colored rides. ( Purple, Gold, Orange & Red) Parking is limited in the Mission Park parking lot - however there are parking spaces on adjoining streets. Wherever you park, let's gather together in the Mission park parking lot to divide up into our groups and ride from there. Saturday, 4-21-12 8:30am CVC Away Ride: Ventura - Lake Casitas-Carpenteria-Montecito-Ventura 8:30am Mission Park Parking lot, Ventura, CA (see driving directions** below) >From this location there are several ride options consistent with our Gold, Orange & Red Ride definitions : (in increasing order of miles & difficulty) : 1) Ventura to Ojai & return = 20+ overall miles (mostly on bikepath) 2) Ventura, Lake Casitas, Carpenteria, Ventura ( 40 + mi.- depending on where you turn back) usually following Hwy # 150 after the Lake Casitas descent 3) Ventura, Lake Casitas, Carpenteria, Montecito, Ventura ( 62 mi.) Here's the entire 62 mile (longest route # 3 ) as shown on my Garmin readout from a previous ride http://connect.garmin.com/activity/141903950 Shorter ride versions would be as described above in # 1 & # 2 ** Driving Directions to start : N/B # 101 FRWY= exit California St. bear to right at top of offramp go straight through 1st traffic light turn Left at next intersection (Santa Clara St.) drive West for approx 1/2 to 3/4 mile to Mission Park Parking Lot on R/S of Santa Clara St. ( if you get to Ventura Ave, you've gone one block too far West) See you at 8:30am on Sat. , 4-21-12 in Ventura. Sunday Social Ride

12 Apr '12

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, April - 15th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Reyes Adobe / Lindero MUP Come out and join us for a local social paced ride (14 Mph Avg. Speed). Approximately 25-30 miles and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. The plan for this Sunday is to head North on Reyes Adobe, cut through the school which puts us on Lindero Cyn., where we will find our way to the Multi Use Path that meanders through Oak Canyon Park. >From there we can take the not too traveled residential side streets to work our way South which puts us at Chumash Park all without having to ride on Kanan. Once there we can choose the return route and/or extension (I.e. Agoura with a Carlisle Canyon loop, Thousand Oaks Blvd to Forrest Cove Park pass though or a Malibou Lake loop). This route uses lightly traveled roads that avoid the traffic of the major streets. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. Note: Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.

Thursday bike ride/picnic-Lake Malibou
by Jan Grant 11 Apr '12

11 Apr '12

* We had 6 hardy riders last week. Fun group! Picnic depends on weather and whether anyone brings food, etc. Dress appropriately. Rain cancels (though "they" say it won't rain...).* *Thursday, April 12th, 5:30 p.m.* (Around-the-lakers can start at any time - picnic @ ~7:00) Westlake Village Start (directions below) Route: *Lake Malibou* - Triunfo to Westlake, right to Agoura Rd, right to Cornell, right, and up Cornell to Mulholland; around Lake Malibou and back the same way. Other alternatives back are up Rock Store or Troutdale and up Kanan. For CVC'rs, longer ride is between a "gold" and "orange" level. No drops. I wait for the slowest rider. *RIDE START:* Triunfo Road just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building in Westlake Village. (From the 101 Fwy, take Lindero Cyn. south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards…where there's grass, sidewalk, the lake…and park along the curb. Picnic is here after the ride.) *TIME:* Those wishing to get in ~20 miles, *5:30, ready to ride.* Those just going around the lake can show up at any time. *PICNIC:* After riding - picnic starts around 7:00 p.m. *WHAT TO BRING: HELMET AND BIKE!* For picnic, bring something to share (cheese, crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever…), a beverage (and something to drink it in if you don't want to drink out of the bottle), something to SIT on and a warm jacket. Also bring any friends, neighbors, relatives, S.O.'s and anyone else who might like to join us (preferably with bikes). Don't forget spare tubes, water bottles, etc. *ROUTES:* Longer ride: Routes will include Hidden Valley, Lake Malibou, North Ranch, and wherever. Around the lake: cruise around the lake in wide bike lanes…no left turns…~5 miles each loop…all flat, no discernible hills. If you wish to be removed from this e-mail list (unless you're getting the notice from CVC), please let me know. Also, feel free to pass the information on to friends, family and S.O's. Everyone is welcome. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Jan Grant
