You can find out more information by clicking HERE<http://www.cvcbike.org/picnic--benefit-ride.html>. And you can register NOW by clicking HERE<https://www.bikereg.com/44771/CVC-Benefit-Picnic--Ride-Thousand-Oaks-CA>. Here are 7 reasons you cannot afford to miss out on this special event: 1. This is our only major Fundraiser of the year. Your participation enables CVC to perpetuate everything you enjoy as a CVC member. 2. The Picnic & Benefit Ride is a significant Member Benefit. We will only accept 200 registrations, and if last year’s demand is any indication, only CVC members will be able to attend. 3. This event raises money for Local Charities, helping us to give back and enhance the Conejo Valley and the Cycling community. 4. This is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate all the goodness, camaraderie and friendship that CVC inspires. 5. Included in your registration fee is a gourmet lunch and access to the beer garden and silent auction following the ride. 6. There will be no other CVC rides scheduled on May 2nd, so what else are you going to do that day? 7. If you forget to register, you will be missing out on the most fun CVC event of the year…and you will have no idea what other members are talking about for months to come. We will be offering three rides that day: * A 25-mile route that wraps around the Conejo Valley, encompassing some of the most enjoyable riding terrain our community has to offer. * A 50-mile route that takes riders down to PCH and back through the Santa Monica Canyons. * A 75-mile route that expands the 50-mile challenge by adding on mileage through Moorpark and Somis. Your minimum donation of $70 enables you to attend this spectacular event, and includes: * A Commemorative T-shirt * Music and Festivities following the ride * A Gourmet Lunch from the Pickles & Peas Mediterranean LunchTruck * Access to The Beer Garden * Silent Auction So REGISTER NOW by clicking HERE<https://www.bikereg.com/44771/CVC-Benefit-Picnic--Ride-Thousand-Oaks-CA>. Map Gravel Rob Kass Rock Store/Backbone 31 3,712 https://www.strava.com/routes/23843727 Westlake Question of the week: Did you watch Phil crush your Westlake climb pr? If you didn’t see it, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=3563UTHMZZg Phil’s time was 7:24, average power 446 watts. That’s pretty quick. It’s fun video to watch, and see an ex pro on the same climb we do. Safety Tip of the Week:  See and Be Seen-Whether daytime, dawn, dusk, foul weather, or at night, you need to be seen by others. Wearing white has not been shown to make you more visible. Rather, always wear neon, fluorescent, or other bright colors when riding day or night. Also wear something that reflects light, such as reflective tape or markings, or flashing lights. Remember, just because you can see a driver doesn’t mean the driver can see you. Make eye contact with other road users, especially at junctions, then you know they’ve seen you. When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards · avoid bunching up · respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride -- Taylor Hodoose 805-390-2200

Map Gravel Rob Kass Hid Val/Sycamore Cyn 36.5 2,704 https://www.strava.com/routes/23747883 Out N Back Question of the week: Am I really burning that many calories? Probably not. Most trackers are overestimating calories burned. Some gym equipment like stair steppers are either completely wrong, or truly magical pieces of equipment. I’ve seen numbers over 900 calories for an hour on that machine. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to count the calories, but don’t go for the extra donut assuming that you burned/earned it. Safety Tip of the Week:  Watch for Traffic Coming from The Rear-Even when you are occupying the proper lane position, it often helps to know when a car is coming. Consider wearing/using a mirror. Since those in front cannot see traffic approaching from the rear, it is the responsibility of the riders in back to inform the others by saying “car back.” Around curves, on narrow roads, or when riding double, it is also helpful to warn of traffic approaching from the front with “car up.” When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully!
