CVC Social Event THIS SUNDAY

Hey CVC Riders, After you ride this Sunday, there will be a great concert in the park sponsored by COSCA (who we support ) and the Conejo Parks and Rec. The concert will be held at the same park where we had our wonderful Picnic and Benefit ride, but in the amphitheater. What a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon/ evening. Bring your family, and come hang with your CVC family and friends to listen to the songs of Fleetwood Mac. Big Bear Group

Sorry for the announcement to all, but there are so many people going to Tour de Big Bear, I forgot who is riding and I know others may still want to go. For anyone who is going, let's ALL have a meeting at Stonehaus on Wednesday night the 25th at 6:00 pm. We can discuss and finalize the details then. Please bring cash to pre-pay the boat if you are interested. This MUST be pre-paid in advance. If you cannot make this meeting, please make arrangements to have someone else bring your $. It will be approximately $25-30 a person (price varies on the total). This is for a 2 hour boat ride. Let's please keep this simple, I can't hold spots without $. We will also discuss and plan dinners, etc. There are so many riders and I can't keep track of everyone unless you show. We will meet towards the back where there is a lot of space. CVC Bike Meeting/Swap Meet JULY 30th

What’s it worth to you ? It’s been said that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Now is your opportunity to take that bike item that has been collecting dust in the cabinet/garage/whatever and see if it is a treasured item coveted by a fellow club member. Come to the July 30th CVC “Swap Meet/Sell Meet” Meeting at the WLV Library at 7:00 PM. It’s OK to bring a small table or tarp (this is especially requested if your item(s) is dirty.) If you don't have something to "sell", come anyway and see your fellow cyclists, be social, have a snack, learn the latest in CVC news. Last Clothing Reminder

Hello Conejo Valley Cyclists! Order all of your club clothing from here! We have, jerseys, bibs, shorts, arm warmers, and a new special line just for mountain biking with an awesome shirt, (not jersey), so take a look. Be sure you are ordering the correct item and size as these are custom orders and cannot be changed. Join in on the fun leaving from CPK, (California Pizza Kitchen) in the Lakes, Thousand Oaks. Meet behind CPK by the parking lot exit at 5:30. Nice place to sit outside after and enjoy festivities! Handling the Heat this Weekend

Hey CVC, It's forecast to be nasty hot this weekend, so here are a few things you can do to avoid overheating: 1. Ride early and get done before the heat gets too high (don't be climbing Encinal at 1:00 when it's 75 at the beach and 105 at the top); 2. Make sure you carry two water bottles and consider freezing the water in them overnight (about 1/2 - 3/4 full will allow it to expand when freezing, then top off with water in the morning); 3. Top off your bottles at every water stop; 4. Drink double shots (when you drink focus on taking twice what you normally might drink); 5. Ice packs. This is one of my requirements if I'm riding in over 100 degrees. Find a small tupperware container, fill it with water and freeze it. In the morning, put it in a cooler before the ride, then transfer it to a gallon baggie and slip it into your middle jersey pocket. It will help keep your core temperature down and you will have ice water later to drink or pour over your head; 6. Don't overdo it. You have about 85% of the power and ability when it's really hot out. Don't be a hero and try to PR the Rockstore this weekend ;) 7. Add electrolytes and salt tablets to your regiment if you plan on riding for more than 2 hours. Personally, I'll be finishing my short ride up by 9am everyday, if I even ride.
