Looks like we're going to have perfect weather for this Sat.'s
local and Santa Barbara's rides.
For those that are planning on riding either of the two Santa Barbara Away Rides:
1) The Gibralter Loop from Tucker's Grove Park ( Jim Doane : Leader)
2) The standard Santa Barbara Away ride from Stearn's Wharf & Cabrillo Blvd.
( Scott F. & Beth McE. : Leaders)
Maybe some others too who are familiar with riding this route previously with us?
Would you please email back to me (click "reply" NOT "reply all")
So that I can get an idea of who's planning on riding where
Last weekend we had our CVC Holiday mixer at Bellinis and we had a nice
turnout. I want to again thank Sheila Sherwyn for organizing the soiree for
us. During the party, we made a few announcements regarding the make-up of
the CVC Board and other committees. For starters, I will be stepping down
as your President as of Dec 31st. I have loved being of service to the club
as President the last 2 years and working with everyone to try and make
this the best cycling club around. Stepping down is particularly easy for
me since I know that Henry Montalvo will be stepping in right behind me as
your new CVC President! I am very confident that Henry will do a
spectacular job at the helm, and bring his usual high level of energy and
effort to the post. I will continue to be on the Board of Directors as
Cruisin' the Conejo co-director with Lee Cole (who will be leaving his post
as Cruisin' Director after the 2014 edition so he can more focus on the
moto road-race team he and his son have formed) . Other changes to the
board will be that we are happy to welcome Sheri Leiken, who will fill
Henry Montalvo's vacated position as Membership Director. Caitlin Steel
will continue as Treasurer (and continue her attempt to keep me and Henry
in line with varying levels of success), and Alison Amagasu as Public
Relations/Social Media Director (stoked to have her as the digital face of
the club). We will be filling the vacant Secretary board position early
next year and we are still needing to fill the ride director board position.
We also have some new committee chair people coming on board. Bruce Fleck
will be our new Website Committee Chairperson. He is going to help us get
our website running and working the way we want it to. We still would like
to add a Charity Committee Chairperson to help with our charitable
contributions. Please contact the board if you would like to be involved.
Again, Thank you for allowing me to be involved in such a great
President (for now)

CVC GOLD RIDE -- Saturday, December 14, 8:30 AM
Since last week was rained out, we'll do the same route.
Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart.
Route: 4 Lakes, 41 miles, 3000 feet climbing
Water & restrooms: Borchard Park, mile 14
Bailout Options: Once coming back from Newbury Park, there are multiple options.
For a detailed map and route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3743876
Ride leader this week: Cam (805) 217-6659
If you depart from the group ride for whatever reason, please pass along the information to the ride leader.
The Gold Ride is an Intermediate recreational ride, 30+ miles in length and averaging 12-14 mph. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. This is a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe ride. We will regroup regularly and to allow everyone a chance to ride together.
Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.
Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants, we could be asked to park elsewhere.

Subsequent to my previous December Away Ride announcement for 12-14th
about the Gibralter Rd.- Camino Cielo Away Ride route.....
Should anyone be interested in riding our "standard" Santa Barbara Away Ride:
This is one of our club's favorite Away Rides and would be nice to ride this time of year.
44 miles 3,600' climbing
Here is the Ride with GPS route map and route slip:
If some CVC'ers are interesed in riding this ride and can arrange for leadership & re-grouping
please advise and I'll make another general member's announcement.
Jim Doane - CVC

9:00am Tucker's Grove Park, Santa Barbara, CA ( parking, water & bathrooms)

Here is the RWGPS link: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3760583
I realize that this is an advanced Away Ride but this has been on our list since I announced
all the Away Rides at the beginning of 2013 and the long range weather forecast looks good for next Sat.
The views along the top of Gibralter & Camino Cielo ( out and back) are spectacular on a clear day.
Lack of available water stops is an issue but can be remedied by bringing extra water bottles/camelback
For an alternative Away Ride:
If there is interest & a club leader volunteer for the "standard" Santa Barbara Away Ride
that ride can be scheduled and announced for next Saturday too.
This ride is 48 miles and approx. 3,000 ' climbing
This route is on our club's Ride with GPS - I can send out particulars if there is enough member interest.
Jim Doane - CVC

7:35 am Westlake weather conditions:
Wet & 40 degrees ( only went up 2 degrees in an hour)
40-50% light rain showers forecasted for rest of daylight hours
I agree with Bill that according to club policy ( wet roads) we are cancelling the Sat. club rides.
My previous idea for a 1:00pm ride doesn't look any more promising for dry conditions.
I'll keep my bike clothes dry hoping for a drier day tomorrow.
Jim Doane - CVC Red Ride Captain
Hi Purple Riders -
As of now, weather.com says there is an 80% chance of rain for the ride time
tomorrow, so we will most likely cancel. I will check again in the morning
and send a follow-up note.
