CVC Saturday Purple Ride 7/7 8:30am Hidden Valley Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Hidden Valley, (out and back) Hi Purple Riders, This Saturday will take you out to Hidden Valley (out and back). Below is a link to the Ride With GPS website that will show you the route. Be sure to print out a route slip if you are unfamiliar with the area. The ride is 20.7 miles with only 880ft. of climbing. Remember, there will be an extra loop around the lake when we get back for those looking to extend their mileage with five more on the flats! To see Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Purple Ride, click here: http://www.cvcbike.org/?p=3127 The Purple ride is a beginner club ride with a 12-13 mph average pace but is open to all levels. No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire. Please check your bike prior to Sunday and make any necessary repairs. Although the Purple ride is a "no drop" ride, for the enjoyment and safety of the participants, we will keep a 12-14 MPH average. If you feel you are not Purple ready, but want to work up to the Purple level, please contact the Ride Captain who will gladly give you some pointers and advise. We strongly recommend that you come out and meet the riders! The best stepping stone to grow into a Purple rider is to ride around Westlake! When you can sweep those 5 flat miles at a steady 12 to 14 mph pace, and still feel ready for more, then you will be able to handle many of the standard Purple routes. Things you need for every ride: Helmet-Mandatory Water or Sports Drink I.D. Sunday Social Ride

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, July - 8th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Reyes Adobe / Lindero MUP Come out and join us for a local social paced ride (14 Mph Avg. Speed). Approximately 25-30 miles and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. The plan for this Sunday is to head North on Reyes Adobe, cut through the school which puts us on Lindero Cyn., where we will find our way to the Multi Use Path that meanders through Oak Canyon Park. >From there we can take the not too traveled residential side streets to work our way South which puts us at Chumash Park all without having to ride on Kanan. Once there we can choose the return route and/or extension (I.e. Agoura with a Carlisle Canyon loop, Thousand Oaks Blvd to Forrest Cove Park pass though or a Malibou Lake loop). This route uses lightly traveled roads that avoid the traffic of the major streets. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you there!! Hi CVC Red Riders: As Norm previously stated - Saturday's local weather forecast is for a hot day. Luckily the next ride in our Red Ride rotation is our Coast ride with all the return route options. I noted at last week's red ride that there have been several riders who desire a faster, longer, red ride route. At the beginning of this week's red ride let's see who in our group wants a more challenging route and plan & announce it ahead of time so that we won't confuse anybody. If you have an idea on a challenging route before then, please email back to me and we can announce it ahead of time. Sunday Purple Ride

Hodencamp From the Citi Bank parking lot east (right) on Townsgate road to a right onto Lakeview then left on Agoura Rd. At Lindero right and around the lake. Rolling REGROUP if needed here just across the Triunfo/Westlake intersection. Go straight across at Westlake Blvd and through to Hampshire. Left on Hampshire and left on Foothill Dr. Around the back side of K-Mart to a right on Manzanita Lane to a left on Willow. Willow bends under the 101 overpass and becomes Conejo School. Conejo across T.O. Blvd and up to a left on Hillcrest. Another rolling REGROUP if needed to make certain everyone made it through the lights. Down across Erbes to a right on Hodencamp. Next a right on Wilbur Ct. which becomes Paige which becomes La Granada. At Janss make a right up the hill to a left on Erbes. At Los Flores turn right on Scenic Park Drive, we'll short cut over to a right on Avenida de los Arboles then right on Westlake. Up Westlake to a left on Kanan and REGROUP once through the intersection. Through North Ranch on Kanan all the way to a right on N. Oak Hills to a right on Medea Creek Rd to a left onto Conifer St. and back to a right on Kanan. At this right be CAREFUL as you pull into the bike lane because there may be other cyclists coming down Kanan and it's a somewhat "blind" corner. Now Down to a right onto T.O. Blvd then a left on Reyes Adobe and across the 101 to a right onto Agoura Rd. Now back to the start at Citi Bank NOW FOR ALL THE OFFICIAL STUFF... Purple Ride Info: This is the easiest of the CVC group rides based on lower mileage, a slower average pace and less hill climbing, unless of course the read leader is in a bad mood and wants to torture all the beginners, ok just kidding. Although it is called a beginner recreation ride, there is a minimal amount of fitness required to maintain the 12-13 mph average pace. If you can average 15mph for two laps 'round The Lake (Westlake) you are there but you must promise not to make fun of the ride leader if you drop them. Routes vary in length from 12 to 25 miles with a maximum of 1500 feet of climbing. We do our best to ensure no one gets dropped on this ride by having frequent regroups. Ride leaders can almost always use an extra volunteer (slave) to help the ride leader. If you are a fit rider using the Purple ride as an active rest ride be aware this will be active rest with the emphasis on s-l-o-w, be patient and keep the pace down, try something completely different, stay with the group, share some of your knowledge with the newbies and help the ride leader. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. See all the British memebers will still be there astonished that nobody else is riding what with the weather being so jolly. After the ride, please join us at one of the many refueling options available at the finish such as Natural Cafe, Sea Casa, East Coast Bagel, Sprouts Market, etc.. This is the time to brag and tell lies about what you did on the ride, a time honored tradition. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Bl.(between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. CVC Saturday Orange Level Ride -- Saturday July 7th 8:30 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Westlake to PCH returning on Encinal. Weather forecast is for 89 Deg., at the start the temperature should be in the high 60 Deg. Hi Everyone, On Saturday July 7th. starting at 8:30 AM we are leaving to PCH through Potrero and returning on Encinal. The first re-group will be at Chanel Island University followed by a stop at Leo Carrillo State Beach for restroom and water; last water stop after the first stinger on Decker. Route: PCH through Potrero to Las Posas to PCH and returning one Encinal Canyon. Reference detailed map and route slip below for details: Please use the restroom before departing. Come on out and join CVC this Thursday July 5th for the North Ranch Ride. Please see the route slip for details. The Ride starts at 5:30 p.m. The Post-Ride Picnic starts between 7:00 - 7:15 p.m., or immediately after we finish the ride. ROUTE: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1289901 DISTANCE: 20 miles PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+ / 15+ mph. NO DROPS: I wait for the slowest rider at strategic points along the route. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: Starts around 7:00 - 7:15 p.m., or immediately after we finish the ride. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. BE PREPARED: A helmet is mandatory. Other things to bring include water or sports drink; I.D. Spare tube(s); CO2 cartridges or hand pump; patch kit; cell phone. SAFETY NOTE: Please do not call out "clear" at intersections. The intersection may not be clear for the rider(s) behind you. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know at a regroup stop or leave me a message (cell: 908-432-3480) so I won't be waiting or looking for you.
