by sheri 31 Jul '11

31 Jul '11

It is supposed to be a hot one... but of course, we will make it a fun one! Let's meet to ride at 8:30 at the usual spot.. Citibank. The Tuesday Morning ride is an intermediate recreational ride (gold to orange level) approximately 25-30 miles in length with an average pace of 14+mph. It is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Route will be finalized and sent, but we will be traveling through North Ranch, to Olson via Erbes... to Wildwood, to La Granada and then some... Hope to see familiar AND unfamiliar faces Tuesday Morning. Sheri/Dennis _____ I am using the Free version of SPAMfighter <http://www.spamfighter.com/len> . 2011 CVC Summer Club BBQ - August 27th - RSVP Required (2nd email)
by Adam Winer 31 Jul '11

31 Jul '11

Last summer the club held its first and highly successful summer club BBQ. We had 90 club members and their families join for a fun filled afternoon/evening for good food with good friends. Read about last years BBQ and see pictures at http://www.cvcbike.org/?p=2813 Save the Date! Saturday, August 27, 2011 - (3:30pm - Sunset) Oak Canyon Community Park - 5600 Hollytree Dr., Oak Park (On Kanan just East of Lindero). This year we have both Pavilions reserved which is at the top level of the park. Map: http://bit.ly/clQU5h The club will buy meats to BBQ (Burgers, Chicken, Hot Dogs, etc) with all the condiments as well as water/sodas. Members, feel free to bring you favorite side dishes or desserts to share. ** Please RSVP to me personally if you are planning on attending so that we can get an accurate count of guests. Please note this is an exclusive invite to current active CVC members and family only. If you are not a current CVC member and would like to join or renew membership, you can do so now by following the below link: https://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=12216 Additional Information: #1 You may wonder how many people to plan for in regards to the side dishes or desserts that you will be bringing. Since we will have quite a large group, it would not be reasonable to plan to have a portion for everyone. If your side dish could feed 10 people, that would be adequate as we will have a lot of side dishes from our members to choose from. #2 NO alcohol is allowed on park property. #3 Yes, you must RSVP if you plan to attend. We need accurate counts in order to know how much meat to purchase #4 If you are a vegetarian or vegan, please let me know so options can be planned accordingly. #5 One more thing, you MUST have fun! There are some fun child (and adult) related parts of the park right by the Pavilion we have reserved. Play areas with playground equipment as well as a cool splash pad / water play area. Any other questions, please ask! There is an optional and educational event, immediately following the club BBQ. See some things you never thought you could see..... GALAXIES - NEBULAS - GLOBULAR CLUSTERS. Wear warm cloths and be prepared to be Amazed! NO EQUIPMENT OR EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Oak Canyon Astronomy Group presents, "The Star Party" which starts at 8 pm in the upper parking lot of the park from 8 untill 11 pm. Last time there were about 30 different scopes to look through. Park lights will be turned off to give maximum night vision for viewing. If you have telescope equipment you will be able to park in the upper parking lot. All others please park in the lower lot near rest rooms. Red Flashlights Only Please and Parking Lights Only for upper parking lot. Those with equipment try and arrive 30 minutes before sunset to setup. ------ Adam Winer Conejo Valley Cyclists, President president(a)cvcbike.org

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday July 31st - 9:00am
by Adam Winer 28 Jul '11

28 Jul '11

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday July 31st - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Hidden Valley / Green Meadow MUP Route Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 30 miles maximum and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. Please remember this is a social paced recovery ride and while that may mean slightly different paces for different people, I attempt to keep the group together as a whole on these rides. The theory is to recover from our Saturday training rides and socialize. Off we will go through Hidden Valley and climb up the hill to Treasure Hill Ranch. A quick descent to a right on Reino Drive where we then take Lynn Road to Green Meadow Drive and cut though the well hidden Multi Use Path behind the Los Robles Golf Course which runs us out on to Moorpark Road. Down Moorpark Road and up our new favorite hill, Las Padres Drive which connects un into the surgical center on Halland Drive which parallels the 101 FWY to Rancho Road. From there up Rancho Road to La Granada Drive where it connects to Conejo School Road. Down Conejo School Road through a few more lightly traveled residential streets and back. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments.　 ------ Adam Winer socialride(a)cvcbike.org

Thursday bike ride/picnic - Hidden Valley loop
by Grant, Janet E PWR 27 Jul '11

27 Jul '11

We had a GREAT ride last Thursday and even better picnic! Tomorrow should be great weather-wise and it's the easiest ride in and out of Hidden Valley. Thursday, July 28th, 5:30 p.m. (Around-the-lakers can start at any time - picnic @ ~7:00) Westlake Village Start (directions below) Route: Hidden Valley - Triunfo to Westlake to Potrero, Lake Sherwood Drive, Potrero, Hidden Valley Road and same way back, and around Westlake lake on return...approximately 20 miles. For CVC'rs, longer ride is between a "gold" and "orange" level. No drops. I wait for the slowest rider. RIDE START: Triunfo Road just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building in Westlake Village. (From the 101 Fwy, take Lindero Cyn. south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards...where there's grass, sidewalk, the lake...and park along the curb.) TIME: Those wishing to get in ~20 miles, 5:30, ready to ride. Those just going around the lake can show up at any time. PICNIC: After riding - picnic starts around 7:00 p.m. (where the cars are parked). WHAT TO BRING: HELMET AND BIKE! For picnic, bring something to share (cheese, crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever...), a beverage (and something to drink it in if you don't want to drink out of the bottle), something to SIT on and a warm jacket. Also bring any friends, neighbors, relatives, S.O.'s and anyone else who might like to join us (preferably with bikes). Don't forget spare tubes, water bottles, etc. ROUTES: Longer ride: Routes will include Hidden Valley, Lake Malibou, North Ranch, and wherever. Around the lake: cruise around the lake in wide bike lanes...no left turns...~5 miles each loop...all flat, no discernible hills. If you wish to be removed from this e-mail list (unless you're getting the notice from CVC), please let me know. Also, feel free to pass the information on to friends, family and S.O's. Everyone is welcome. Jan Grant
