2011 CVC Summer Club BBQ - August 27th - RSVP Required

Last summer the club held its first and highly successful summer club BBQ. We had 90 club members and their families join for a fun filled afternoon/evening for good food with good friends. Saturday, August 27, 2011 - (3:30pm - Sunset) Oak Canyon Community Park - 5600 Hollytree Dr., Oak Park (On Kanan just East of Lindero). This year we have both Pavilions reserved which is at the top level of the park. Map: http://bit.ly/clQU5h The club will buy meats to BBQ (Burgers, Chicken, Hot Dogs, etc) with all the condiments as well as water/sodas. Members, feel free to bring you favorite side dishes or desserts to share. ** Please RSVP to me personally if you are planning on attending so that we can get an accurate count of guests. Please note this is an exclusive invite to current active CVC members and family only. If you are not a current CVC member and would like to join or renew membership, you can do so now by following the below link: https://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=12216 Additional Information: #1 You may wonder how many people to plan for in regards to the side dishes or desserts that you will be bringing. Since we will have quite a large group, it would not be reasonable to plan to have a portion for everyone. If your side dish could feed 10 people, that would be adequate as we will have a lot of side dishes from our members to choose from. #2 NO alcohol is allowed on park property. #3 Yes, you must RSVP if you plan to attend. We need accurate counts in order to know how much meat to purchase #4 If you are a vegetarian or vegan, please let me know so options can be planned accordingly. #5 One more thing, you MUST have fun! There are some fun child (and adult) related parts of the park right by the Pavilion we have reserved. Play areas with playground equipment as well as a cool splash pad / water play area. Group Ride Safety

CVC Race Director, Michael Lilly sent an excellent email out to the members list this morning. I felt it was so on point that it should be sent to the announce list as well. Along the same topic, there have been some complaints lately of club members blatantly disregarding the rules of the road in an extremely unsafe manner. Such flagrant disregard of the law as well as riding that puts our group in unsafe situations WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Case in point was a member that felt it was OK to run a red light (full speed) Northbound at Arboles and Westlake a few weeks ago. I received no less than five complainants about this. If this pattern continues to happen, violators will be asked to cease riding with the club. I have attached a great article I saved from Pez Cycling regarding group etiquette and safety measures to assure us all of fun, safe and organized rides every weekend. There are a lot of new club members that may be reading this for the first time and a lot of skilled veterans that have heard this all before but it's always good to review it, practice these tips and even help others understand why these guidelines work in a group ride. If you are in a situation in a group ride and don't know what you should be doing.please ask the Ride Leader or someone beside you. Citibank start location to Malibou Lake - Rock Store - Mulholland Hwy - Decker Canyon - around Westlake Lake. 25 + miles with 2,100' of climbing. Starting at 5:15pm Same route as the Tuesday Red Ride (without upper Encinal Canyon). Dale Smith will be leading the ride. Re-group at: Cornell / Mulholland and top of Rock Store. Tuesday Morning CVC ride

Hi Cvc'ers.... We had a great turnout last Tuesday morning! So anyone else who wants to come along... please join us! Actually, I won't be there, and I am not sure when Dennis returns, but I think we have a big enough group that if you show, you can pick a ride amongst yourselves and have a great time! (He may be back by then) Please join eachother at 8:30 on Tuesday morning at Citibank. The Tuesday Morning ride is an intermediate recreational ride (gold to orange level) approximately 25-30 miles in length with an average pace of 14+mph. It is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun,safe ride. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. CVC ROCKS!

Just a quick thank you to everyone that was there for me today. There is nothing like having a family of support around when you need them. My bike crash could have been much worse! A little time and the road rash and collar bone will heal. I am pleased that the bike is OK. Only a couple of scratches on the shifters. PS- I will back off a little on the descents, it's a tough learning curve. Thanks again, John

All, Please take a look at an email I received from the LVMWD today. The first segment won't affect us that much as most of our routes don't use Reyes Adobe Rd. However, the second segment on Agoura Rd will definitely affect us. I will try to narrow down the schedule for the second segment and find out how the lane closure will be handled. CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday July 17th - 9:00am

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday July 17th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 25-30 miles max. and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. With Mulholland nicely paved from Las Virgenes to Westlake now, let's do our Malibou Lake route this weekend, either in the normal or reverse direction. The normal direction takes us down Agoura Rd. to a re-group at De Anza Park. South, down Las Virgenes to Mulholland. Lake Vista Dr. and around Malibou Lake, returning via Cornell. The reverse direction is to ride out to Mulholland Hwy via Cornell and do a loop around Malibou Lake. Then head East down Mulholland Hwy towards Las Virgenes where we will return via Agoura Road. Several optional return routes are available depending on what everyone feels like. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. In the 1980's Mr.Lane was host of the television show "Viewpoint on Nutrition" one of the first shows to discuss environmental illness. Joshua was host on South Florida Radio with a show called "The Natural Grocer" which had Whole Foods as one of the sponsors. Saturday Westlake Ride Citibank 8:30am Start.

Hi All, For those that will not be attending the CVC away ride in Ventura on Saturday, Harlene Roen will be riding from our regular start at Citibank Westlake at 8:30 am. You may join her on a gold paced ride, approximately 25-30 miles in length. Possible routes will be 7 Minute Hill or Stunt out and back. Participants can decide at the ride start. This is not a CVC sanctioned ride but all club regulations should still be adhered to. Have fun, Kent.
