CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, August 12th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Reyes Adobe / Lindero MUP Come out and join us for a local social paced ride (14 Mph Avg. Speed). Approximately 25-30 miles and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. The plan for this Sunday is to head North on Reyes Adobe, cut through the school which puts us on Lindero Cyn., where we will find our way to the Multi Use Path that meanders through Oak Canyon Park. >From there we can take the not too traveled residential side streets to work our way South which puts us at Chumash Park all without having to ride on Kanan. Once there we can choose the return route and/or extension (I.e. Agoura with a Carlisle Canyon loop, Thousand Oaks Blvd to Forrest Cove Park pass though or a Malibou Lake loop). For those riders that wish to extend the ride I would sugest to add a Malibu lake loop with possibly a Rockstore extention. This route uses lightly traveled roads that avoid the traffic of the major streets. Even though we are attempting to offer our coolest ride routes during high heat days, some considerations and situations that you should be aware of for riding in high heat in our area: 1) Stay hydrated and be aware to keep your electrolites balanced 2) Road surface conditions: asphalt tar & repair drips become semi liquid and especially slippery example: descending Decker/Westlake has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar Try to ride over them minimizing tire contact 3) Goat head thorns have returned and caused six flats on this past week's Orange ride Carry and extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs 4) Be aware of other riders signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance as applicable After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you there!! Dale Note: Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the shops or market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere

CVC Saturday Purple Ride 8/11 8:30 Carlisle Canyon Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village. Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Greetings CVC Purple riders, friends and family!!! SHORT ride since Saturday will be a ~HOT~ one! Please bring LOTS of ~WATER~!!! PLEASE RSVP to me if you ARE coming this Saturday! (Last Sat there were NO Purple riders - no worries - I just want to plan accordingly.) This Saturday August 11th Purple Ride takes us to Carlisle Canyon, out and back. It is only 13.3 miles but several extension options are available. You can add in some Hidden Valley scenery or add a lake loop a the end depending on what the group wants to do. Here is the route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/289395 We will meet at Citibank (corner of Agoura Hills and Westlake), rolling out at 8:30 AM. To see Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Purple Ride, click here: http://www.cvcbike.org/?p=3127 The Purple ride is a beginner club ride with a 12-13 mph average pace but is open to all levels. No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire. Please check your bike prior to Sunday and make any necessary repairs. Although the Purple ride is a "no drop" ride, for the enjoyment and safety of the participants, we will keep a 12-14 MPH average. If you feel you are not Purple ready, but want to work up to the Purple level, please contact the Ride Captain who will gladly give you some pointers and advise. We strongly recommend that you come out and meet the riders! The best stepping stone to grow into a Purple rider is to ride around Westlake! When you can sweep those 5 flat miles at a steady 12 to 14 mph pace, and still feel ready for more, then you will be able to handle many of the standard Purple routes. Things you need for every ride: Helmet-Mandatory Water or Sports Drink I.D. Cell phone Spare tube CO2 cartridge or hand pump Patch kit Route slip Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. CVC Purple Team! :-) Have Fun On Saturday! Thursday August 9th - Ride (5:30 pm) and Picnic (7:15 pm)
by Sherrie Felton 07 Aug '12

07 Aug '12

Come on out and join CVC this Thursday August 9th for the Hidden Valley Ride. Please see the route slip for details. The Ride starts at 5:30 p.m. ROUTE: Hidden Valley + optional lake lap cool-down. DISTANCE: 20-25 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph. NO DROPS: I wait for the slowest rider at strategic points along the route. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: If a QUORUM is present, the Post-Ride Picnic will begin around 7:15 p.m. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. QUESTIONS: Email me at hatoolah(a)msn.com or call my cell at 908.432.3480. SAFETY NOTES: 1. A helmet is mandatory. I.D., water or sports drink, a snack, spare tube(s), CO2 cartridges or hand pump, patch kit, cell phone are recommended. 2. Please do not call out "clear" at intersections. The intersection may not be clear for the rider(s) behind you. 3. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know at a regroup stop or leave me a message (cell: 908-432-3480). 4. Seasonal safety issues: - Be prepared for heat. Stay hydrated. Carry a sports drink or capsules to keep your electrolytes in balance. Drink before you feel thirsty. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance if you see another rider exhibiting these signs. - The tar used to repair asphalt roads can become semi-liquid and slippery on hot days. Example: The Decker/Westlake descent has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar. Use caution when riding over these areas in high heat. - Be prepared for flats. The “Goat’s Head” thorn, a.k.a. “Puncture Vine” a.k.a. Tribulus Terrestris, has returned to the roads we cycle on. Club rides are seeing an increase in flats caused by these thorns. Carry an extra tube or two and even a patch kit for flat repairs. CVC Inclement Weather Policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. ADDENDUM: Round-the-lakers can start at any time and join us for the picnic at 7:15 p.m. (see note about picnic quorum, above). Regards, Sherrie Felton
