CVC WEEKLY RIDE PREVIEW and RACE TEAM NEWS February 22-27 Hi all! Another week of great rides lined up. Sunshine and saddles, what a combo. Hope to see you out on the roads and trails. Don't forget to stop by Cronies on Saturday for breakfast, lunch, or dinner to help out the Ventura County Fire Department Widows and Orphans Fund. Saturday: 8:30am at Sprout's parking lot Red-Jim Doane will lead the Crimson Crushers on a Stunt/Piuma run. Hi CVC Members and Guests, Our G.O. Ride is typically 35 to 45 miles long with 2,200 to 4,200 feet of climbing and an average speed of 13 to 15 mph. As usual, we will meet at the Citibank parking lot and have our pre-ride announcements promptly at 9:00 AM then splitting into our groups and departing. This Sunday's ride is Wildwood, Erbes Rd, North Ranch, Oak Park returning Agoura Rd with a possible Malibu Lake loop. 36 miles and 2789 feet. For a detailed route slip please go to:http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1411476 We will anounce regroup spots at the ride start. This is a "drop ride" meaning that if you can't keep up with the group, and/or catch up within the re-group times - you are "on your own" to know the route from previous knowledge or by following the route slip. It is possible and/or probable that members can assist others with mechanical & other rider emergencies along the route however. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel the official club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Bl.(between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. CVC PURPLE RIDE - Saturday February 22nd, 8:30 a.m. Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart. Ride leader/s for this ride will be: Bill Sietsema Route: Cronies Breakfast Ride; 21.9 miles; 1330 feet We're going to try something new for this ride. We'll ride from Westlake to Newbury Park where we can take a break at Cronies Sports Grill where they are having a fundraiser for the Widows, Orphans, and Assistance Fund sponsored by the Ventura County Fire Department. Then we'll head back to Westlake Village. If anyone doesn't want the break at Cronies, we can split up the group for the return trip. The fund raiser is not a club event. Any purchases at Cronies are purely voluntary. Route maps will be provided. Bring a lock for your bike if you want to stop at the grill for breakfast. Average distance is less than 25 miles at a pace of less than 12 MPH. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition. This is a "no drop ride" however, please try to stay together. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. Saturday, 2-22-14 CVC RED Ride : 8:30am: Citibank/Sprouts Parking lot - Westlake Village ( NE Corner: Westlake Blvd. & Agoura/Hampshire Rd.s) Join me in welcoming our annual Toronto visitor, Ed Weiss who's riding with us this Sat. He escaped from the "Arctic Vortex" and I'd like to show him a route above the Marine Layer so that he can enjoy one of our rides with the maximum amount of panaramic views. RIDE ROUTE: Agoura Rd.-Malibou Lake-Mulholland Hwy-King Gillette Ranch Piuma-Stunt Rd.-Mulholland-Malibou Lake-Westlake Lake Loop back to start. 43.8 miles 5,715' climbing (as calculated by RWGPS which is always a little higher than actual) For a detailed map & route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/users/2519/routes Re-Group spots: 1) King Gillette Ranch ( water, restrooms) 2) Top of Piuma ( on North side with LA overview) 3) Top of Stunt Rd. CVC Community Event -- Saturday, February 22nd

Hey CVC'ers, Whether on a ride, or at home, the first people we call when there is an accident or injury is the fire department. This is a great way to say thanks to the Ventura County Fire Department for being there when we need them. They do an incredible job 365-24-7. It is the perfect opportunity for the cycling community to give back to these first responders and, it is in this spirit that I am sending out the below information. I hope you are able to attend. The Auxiliary of the Ventura County Fire Department, Widows, Orphans and Assistance Fund is having a fundraiser at ALL Cronies Sports Grill locations, Saturday February 22nd, 2014. The event will last all day (Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner). A portion of the proceeds will go to this above mentioned fund. Below is the flyer. If you depart from the group ride or wish to deviate from the posted route for whatever reason, you must pass along the information to the ride leader so that there is no confusion for the other cyclists. The Gold Ride is an Intermediate recreational ride, 30+ miles in length and averaging 12-14 mph. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. This is a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. Hi CVCrs, Hi All, The days are slowly getting longer and before we know it,we'll be riding sans lighting. The ride schedule for this week is as follows: Tuesday we're riding in Wildwood. Meet at the end of Los Arboles at 6:00 pm Thursday we're riding Lang Ranch. Meet at the end of Lang Ranch Pkwy at 6:00 pm Optional event: Meeting at King Gillette Ranch at 6:30 for a meeting regarding trail use in the Santa Monica Mountains. I am going to attend so I will not be riding. Everyone is welcome to attend. The ranch is on Mulholland at Las Virgenes. Our rides are done jointly with the Conejo Mountain Bike club (CMB). It is an intermediate paced ride and not a no-drop ride. but,lets stay together within our groups, and have a fun safe time.
