Watch for gusts in canyons and descents. It's hot summer now, so remember sunscreen, extra water and electrolytes. On Saturday we have three rides. The Red Ride is heading over Mulholland and up Piuma, with a return down Fernwood and Old Topanga. The Orange Ride is doing a loop over Mulholland with an up-n-back on Stunt. And the Gold ride will going out toward Moorpark, then looping back through Oak Park. On Sunday the Red Ride is going up over Grimes Canyon to the Bardsdale Golf Course and back. The G.O. Ride is heading for the Rock Store, Lil Sycamore and Carlisle Canyon. And the social ride is doing a nice loop up Reyes Adobe, Kanan and Foutainwood in Oak Park. We've also got midweek rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, including the our famous Rock Store Race Ride (with moderat-paced options), a Wednesday afternoon spin with Sheri and destination rides Tuesday and Thursday mornings. When riding with your groups, please be very verbal and watch for debris in the bike lanes. Always warn riders behind you of everything approaching! You are their eyes when you are on the front. Our Purple and Newcomer rides are getting a good turn-out. Please help spread the word and bring friends! Our next Purple ride is scheduled for May 6th. The Thousand Oaks Motor Officers “hold” all the intersections so there is no stopping for any red lights. The ride starts at 5:45pm and is over at 7:30. The Ride of Silence is a yearly international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed or injured while riding on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among motorists of the dangers they pose to cyclists. Wednesday: Ride Leader - Sheri Leiken 3:45pm at The Landing parking lot. Please join us for a mid-week ride Wednesday afternoon. Route to be determined at start. This is a Gold+ pace ride of approx. 20-25 miles. Thursday: Morning Ride - Leader Kurt Heisser 9:00am rollout from The Landing parking lot. Hidden Valley and Carlisle route. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians* Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes. ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Ride of Silence/Community Cycling News and events

Members, 1. Please see attachment for the Ride of Silence. The Ride of Silence is a yearly international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed or injured while riding on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among motorists of the dangers they pose to cyclists. ... Our club will be hosting this ride at the Lakes in Thousand Oaks. Please come support this international event. On May 17, 2017 the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. In 2003,Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month <http://www.bikeleague.org/content/national-bike-month> , aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured. 2. Angie Simpson, City Traffic Commissioner and all around great person is encouraging anyone who has an extra bike to donate it. This is her request:: Conejo Valley High School, which is our CVUSD's continuation program, is desperately looking for adult size bikes to use by students who are walking extreme distances to school. These students also need adult helmets and bike locks. This group of students need our support to ensure they have transportation to and from school, and that they have transportation to get to and from work. If you have a bicycle, lock, or helmet to donate, you can message me (angiesimpson805(a)gmail.com) and I'll pick them up, or better yet drop them off at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center located at 1375 E. Janss Road. Please tag the items "For CVHS Students" and have them placed in Pete's office. We are never motivated to clean our garage, but knowing these items will help our local kids succeed is all I need to think about to make it happen. 3. The County of Ventura is currently repaving a portion of Santa Rosa Road. If anyone has any comments or concerns about the re-striping they should contact the County Public Works Department or County Supervisor Linda Parks. They are not getting rid of /or are adding back rumble strips. Please voice your concerns there if need be. 4. You are cordially invited to join the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) for a family-friendly, 10-mile recreational ride on Monday, May 15, 2017 to inaugurate the installation of the Department’s first public bicycle repair stand, a project idea of Bicycle Roundtable member and Ventura County Fire Captain Jack Nosco. The free Bike ‘n’ Ride event will kick off at 9 a.m., departing Giant Bicycle in Newbury Park. Led by Jack Nosco, participants will travel from Newbury Park to VCFD Fire Station 33 in Lake Sherwood where friends and families can cheer participants on as riders cross the finish line! At 10 a.m. VCFD will unveil the County’s first bike repair station. From changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs, the bike repair station features an air pump, tools and mounts to securely hang a bike so riders can make adjustments. This event will highlight the installation of one of several repair stands to be installed at Ventura County Fire Stations in our region. Giant Bicycle is located at 3587 Old Conejo Road, Newbury Park. The Lake Sherwood Fire Station is located at 33 Lake Sherwood Drive. The Tuesday evening 5:30 pm Rock Store ride continues on Tuesday April 18th at 5:30 pm PDT sharp. The ride leaves from the Landings parking lot. Sunset tomorrow is about 7:30 pm so we have more than an hour from the Encinal Y to sunset. There is a chance of rain tomorrow but hopefully it will be early and the roads will be dry by 5:30 pm.
