Wed. Ride 3:45 AT THE LAKES

Hi All, Wednesday afternoon riders (all invited) will be meeting THIS Wednesday at THE LAKES parking Lot, behind CPK, (California Pizza Kitchen) area at 3:45. We will get in about 20 miles before we return to do The Ride of Silence. Ride of Silence ceremony begins at 6. Please arrive by 5:45 to check in and get an armband. Following announcements, there will be an approx. 10 mile police escorted, slow paced ride through Thousand Oaks and Westlake. Let's bring attention to the drivers of the Conejo Valley, stressing the importance of motor vehicles being cautious with cyclists. This is a NATION WIDE event. Please come show your support for cyclists all over the globe, for those you know who have had an accident and remembering and honoring the many hundreds of people we have lost in this world due to cars. If you cannot show for the 3:45 start, please show by 5:15-5:30 if you are able to help Kent or Mike with the set up or check in of this event. Please show up and show your support. Thank you! Those wanting a longer ride will continue onto the Rock Store, while those pressed for time can return down Cornell and Agoura. This will allow you to ride 22, 35 or 51 miles. Remember the sunscreen though. It's blazing sun time of the year. On Saturday we have three rides. The Red Ride is heading up Westlake to Lil Sycamore, descending Mulholland, back up Encinal and over Rock Store. The Orange Ride is heading up Westlake as well, then descending Encinal to the beach and coming back up Latigo. And the Gold ride will out Hidden Valley, dropping down to CSU and going through Camarillo and back up through the Santa Rosa Valley. On Sunday in honor of Mother's Day, we'll do a fun family club combined ride that can be adapted to your schedule. We'll head out Hidden Valley together, let the rockets run up Treasure Hill while the rest of us go directly to the stables area. Then we will loop back over Sherwood and you can finish with a lake lap, or continue with us up Cornell for a loop around Lake Malibu. If you have time and want a little more, you can continue up over the Rock Store. Bring mom. She'll love the view : ) We've also got midweek rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, including the our famous Rock Store Race Ride (with moderat-paced options), a Wednesday afternoon spin with Sheri and destination rides Tuesday and Thursday mornings. When riding with your groups, please be very verbal and watch for debris in the bike lanes. Always warn riders behind you of everything approaching! You are their eyes when you are on the front. Our Purple and Newcomer rides are getting a good turn-out. Please help spread the word and bring friends! Our next Purple ride is scheduled for May 20th. The Thousand Oaks Motor Officers “hold” all the intersections so there is no stopping for any red lights. The ride starts at 5:45pm and is over at 7:30. The Ride of Silence is a yearly international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed or injured while riding on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among motorists of the dangers they pose to cyclists. REGULAR WEEKLY CLUB RIDES Tuesday: Morning Ride - Leaders Susan Ashby and Sherrie Felton 9:00am rollout from The Landing parking lot. Hidden Valley and Santa Rosa route. This is a Gold+ pace ride of approx. 20-25 miles. Thursday: Morning Ride - Leader Susan Ashby and David Stumpf 9:00am rollout from The Landing parking lot. 7-Minute Hill route. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians* Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes. ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. Dear CVC Members, I am happy to announce that our first CVC Picnic & Benefit ride was a big success. In the end, we financially outdid Crusin and had an incredible time doing so. The weather presented challenges for sure, but with the help of all, we overcame! Only thing needed was hot coffee! I'd like to take a few minutes to thank those of you who participated. All of the CVC riders who signed up on this new adventure to support your club, THANK YOU! A HUGE thank you!!!! I am really proud to be part of such a generous bunch of great people who ride for passion and for others. YOU totally made and owned the ride, and your positive attitude made my day, especially when I was feeling down about the weather. Who woulda thought we'd be shivering in May? Change was a gamble, but this change turned for the better and for that, I owe it to all of you who participated! I would also like to call out a few others who gave up riding for the day to help or were spouses who were gently coaxed into helping. Harlene Roen, my right hand gal, CVC Bear maker, silent auction organizer, wine blanket maker, and so much more.... Kay Fields who can turn something small into something so special and big with her beautiful basket organizing, Lisa Gutman who generously helped with getting all baskets and wrapping, Katie Suranyi for the wine, Eric for the silent auction donation, Jeanne R. for her help in gathering helmets, Bob Muzio and Chuck Seabury for their day of awesome SAG driving making all feel safe and secure, Connie and Jeff Vine, Ursula, Jeanne C. and Andrea for an incredible rest stop, Zulma and Joe for their help and expertise at the rest stop in Westlake. Oh my gosh, the watermelon. I heard someone got up at 5 to cut watermelon! And Connie Soloway for coming at a minutes notice. BTW, I am so glad I had some NorthWest people at both stops who were NOT be phased by the weather. Of course, I would like to thank those who helped me get this off the ground, Jim D, Sherrie F. David, Alfonso, and all of you who came to meetings to support and share ideas. And I can't let you not know about Henry. Yes, Henry is alive and well, and he sat and planned hours with us, and sent out every one of those juicy newsletters you received about the ride each and every week. And a special BIG thank you to Marty, Alfonso, and Ed B. for all staying and helping to clean up after! (and for those I missed who also helped out) But let's not forget my husband who has his hustling way of getting you all set up on routes, rest stops, securing locations, finding a sound system, finding support, route slips, and basically making it all work even through my nagging. xoxo Kent! Hello all registered riders and those waiting to decide!!! The registration for the CVC Benefit and picnic ride will close TUESDAY at 8:00 PM! There will be NO walking up on the day of the event to register. If you are a volunteer, please sign up for lunch. Bring your beer donation $ along and come enjoy some 805! Great silent auction too! I want to thank those who have already registered!!! I am proud that our club has generously reached out to make a mark in the community. We are very fortunate to be able to do this. I know there are a few of you still out there waiting, so please come on out and show what CVC is known for! Join your club members and let's go ride! Registration has been going great! It will be a fun day, a fun ride, and we will be able to help out with at least two very worthy local causes! You will be receiving detailed routes to download on Thursday. We will also have printed route slips available Saturday morning. Be on the look out! Please note that the start is in the Conejo Community Park off Gainsborough. The address is 400 W Gainsborough.
