CVC Club Ride Recap for Week of 9-14-12 Starting Time is 8:00 AM Hi CVC'rs, Here’s this upcoming week’s club ride recap summarizing the rides and identifying the club ride leaders. Please refer to the individual ride captain’s ride announcement emails for specific ride details. Note that each club colored ride has a “Ride Captain” with a team of “Ride Leaders” who will lead the specific announced rides as posted by the Ride Captains. Everyone is invited and encouraged to take part in leading and assisting the rides, just contact the ride Captain and they will tell you all you need to know. CVC Sunday Purple Ride – Sunday 9:00 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner),. Route: New route, up Westlake to Arboles ovr to Erbes and a Right on La Granada to Hilcrest then a right on Conejo School road.followed by a lap around the Lake. Hi Everyone, On Sunday starting at 9:00 AM the Purple Ride is riding the Northern TO Loop. Please refer to the detailed map. As usual, we will meet at the Citibank parking lot and have our pre-ride announcements promptly at 9:00AM then splitting into our groups and departing. CVC Sunday Social Ride – Sunday 9:00 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner), this is a longer social route with options to make it shorter. Route: Westlake to Arboles left on Parkview then a Left on Erbes follow by a Right on La Granada, we will ride up Lynn to Dos Vientos and returning on Portrero. This route is new to the rotation so have a route slip if you are unfamelier with these directions. Hi Everyone, On Sunday starting at 9:00 AM the Social Ride is riding to Does Vientos and returning on Potrero. Please reference the route slip and map for details as this is new to the Social Ride. CVC Saturday Purple Ride – Saturday 8:00 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner). Route: Agoura to Lindero Canyon around the lake, left on Westlake and right on Potrero for a ride through Hidden Valley. Hi Everyone, On Saturday starting at 8:00 AM the Purple Ride is riding the Hidden Valley loop. Regroups will be frequent with a stop at Fire Station 33 for Restroom and Water. For a detailed map and route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1216415 Re-grouping Locations: Fire Station 33. . And as needed to maintain group contact. As usual, we will meet at the Citibank parking lot and have our pre-ride announcements promptly at 8:00AM then splitting into our groups and departing. It is a "no drop ride" with frequent regroups and no one is left behind; however, if you are not planning on riding the entire route please notify the ride leader. Thursday September 13th Malibu Lake Ride (5:15 pm Start)

Important: From tomorrow through the end of September, the Thursday pm ride will start at 5:15 p.m. due to waning daylight. The last Thursday pm ride will roll on September 27th (will resume in spring). Come on out and join CVC this Thursday September 13th for the Malibu Lake Ride. Please see the route slip for details. ROUTE: Malibu Lake DISTANCE: 20 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph. NO DROPS: I wait for the slowest rider at strategic points along the route. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: If a QUORUM is present, the Post-Ride Picnic will begin around 7:00 p.m. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. QUESTIONS: Email me at hatoolah(a)msn.com. SAFETY NOTES: 1. A helmet is mandatory. I.D., water or sports drink, a snack, spare tube(s), CO2 cartridges or hand pump, patch kit, cell phone are recommended.2. Please do not call out "clear" at intersections. The intersection may not be clear for the rider(s) behind you.3. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know at a regroup stop or leave me a message (cell: 908-432-3480).4. Seasonal safety issues:- Be prepared for heat. Stay hydrated. Carry a sports drink or capsules to keep your electrolytes in balance. Drink before you feel thirsty. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance if you see another rider exhibiting these signs.- The tar used to repair asphalt roads can become semi-liquid and slippery on hot days. Example: The Decker/Westlake descent has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar. Use caution when riding over these areas in high heat.- Be prepared for flats. The “Goat’s Head” thorn, a.k.a. “Puncture Vine” a.k.a. Tribulus Terrestris, has returned to the roads we cycle on. Club rides are seeing an increase in flats caused by these thorns. Carry an extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs. CVC Inclement Weather Policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Hi All: The weather forecast is for another HOT weekend (maybe less humid though?) In my attempt to offer different Red Ride routes & riding directions every week, how about this Red Ride for Saturday: (has options for making the ride shorter if it gets too hot) Two Santa Monica Mt. climbs: Decker & Encinal Canyon (in-between is a Mulholland descent) Decker is 4.5 miles and Encinal is 5.5 miles If too hot or too tired -leave off one of the climbs.
