CVC Sunday G.O. Ride -- Sunday, July 21, 2013 9:00 am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Hi CVC club members and guests, Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 25-38 miles max. and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. We haven't ridden this in a while so lets try it this Sunday. This week we will go Norwegian Grade style with a Read Road Bypass return. Climbing Erbs to Arboles and up Westlake Blvd. Possible extensions thru North Ranch, Oak Park and Old Agoura. See you there! Dale Even though we are attempting to offer our coolest ride routes during high heat days, some considerations and situations that you should be aware of for riding in high heat in our area: 1) Stay hydrated and be aware to keep your electrolytes balanced 2) Road surface conditions: asphalt tar & repair drips become semi liquid and especially slippery example: descending Decker/Westlake has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar Try to ride over them minimizing tire contact 3) Goat head thorns have returned be sure to carry an extra tube or two maybe even a patch kit . 4) Be aware of other riders signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance as applicable After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you there!!! Dale Note: Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the shops or market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere

*CVC GOLD RIDE -- Saturday, July 20th, 8:30 AM* Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart. *Route: Woodranch Loop; Lake Loop; 35.6 miles; 3,074 Feet. **For a detailed map and route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2144684* **Sanctioned Rides Safety Requirements: - Helmets must be worn - Obey all traffic laws - Where provided, ride in the bike lane - Ride to the right, Pass on the left - Point-out hazards & approaching situations to riders behind you - Ride 2 abreast only where it is safe to do so; Single file where it is not. - Never ride more than 2 abreast - Avoid passing other riders on down-hills. - Indicate your intentions verbally For safe cycling, CVC recommends the following: - Ear buds and headphones are not permitted - Ride predictably; Avoid rapid changes in movement - Be vigilant for doors opening on parked cars - Use a mirror ** The *Gold Ride* is an Intermediate recreational ride, 30-40+ miles in length and averaging 14+ mph. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. *This is a "drop **ride**" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe **ride**. We will regroup regularly and to allow everyone a chance to ride together.* *Things to have: *Helmet !!! - *Water to complete the ride or at least to reach the next water stop* - Tools to perform minor repairs - Chain repair linkage - Inner-tube and pump (or the like) - Cellular phone - Food to replenish energy*.* *Inclement weather policy*: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Average distance is less than 25 miles at a pace of less than 12 MPH. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition. *This is a "no drop **ride**" however, please try to stay together. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe **ride**. Hi CVC Red and Orange Riders : Here is my proposed Red & Orange Ride for this Saturday, 7-20-13 It's going to be HOT again - but since we've ridden Coast routes for the past few weeks, let's ride in the Calabassas direction this time. CVC Red & Orange Ride Saturday, 7-20-13 8:30am Citibank Parking lot = NE corner Agoura Rd & Westlake Blvd. Westlake Village- Lake Malibou- King Gillette Ranch- up Piuma Rd.- across Saddle Peak -down Fernwood-Up Old Topanga Canyon then Calabassas return to Westlake This ride affords us to the opportunity to climb Piuma & ride in the reverse direction of our usual Fernwood climb and then we'll return via' Old Topanga Canyon and Calabassas-Mureau Rd.-Agoura-Westlake Here are my Garmin stats. from a previous time we rode this ride: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/138097301 ( King Gillette instead of JBDA Park however) 49. miles, 4,500+ ft. climbing 3:30 approx. riding time 8:30am start: Westlake Village First re-group: King Gillette Ranch Second re-group: top of Piuma - ocean overlook FYI: Piuma is 2X Rock Store in distance & climbing feet Third re-group: top of Stunt Rd. - then proceed up Saddle Peak riding to the East, across Tuna Canyon down Fernwood Pacific- Fourth re-group: Fernwood Market at Fernwood/Topanga Canyon Back up Old Topanga Canyon - through Calabassas to Westlake See you at 8:30am Jim Doane- CVC Red Ride Captain _______________________________________________

CVC North Ranch Ride, Thursday July 18 @ 5:30 PM

Come on out and join CVC this Thursday July 18th for the North Ranch Ride. Please see the route slip for details. The Ride starts at 5:30 p.m.ROUTE: North RanchDISTANCE: 20-25 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph.NO DROPS: I will wait ahead at strategic points/turns along the route, or sweep behind the group or as needed, so nobody gets left behind. Faster riders who are familiar with the course and who prefer to ride ahead are encouraged to do so; they need not wait at regroup points.DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb.PICNIC: If a QUORUM is present, the Post-Ride Picnic will begin around 7:00 p.m. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. CVC Annual Members BBQ-Save the Date!!

*Its CVC BBQ Time* Hi CVC'rs, Its time again to all get together for some major chow and grog We have been riding hard all summer long, and now its time plow into some well earned BBQ. So, mark that calender. The date is Sunday, September 15th from 1-5pm. We are moving to the Conejo Creek Park this year and will take over the Creekside picnic pavilion. As usual, the club will supply meats and drinks, and members will bring a side dish to share. I will send out more information in the next few weeks. Looking forward to seeing all of you! Kent.

CVC MTB Rides for week of 7-15

Hey CVC Mountainbikers, The rides for the week of 7-15 are as follows. Tuesday we're riding in Lang Ranch. Meet at the end of Lang Ranch Pkwy at 6:00 pm. Always options for short or longer rides. Thursday we're riding in Dos Vientos. Meet at Wendy and Potrero at 6:00 pm Exact routes to be determined. Most of our rides are approximately 8-15 miles and last around 1.5-2 hours. This is an intermediate/advanced paced ride and not a no-drop ride. but,lets stay together within our groups, and have a fun safe time. See you soon. Kent
