CVC Weekly Recap for the weekend of 9-7-2013 Hi All, Below is your recap of all things CVC for the week of 9-7-2013 ....It is still pretty warm out there, so be cool! ( I sound like Henry....) Don't Forget to mark you calenders for the Annual CVC Members BBQ on September 15th. If you haven't yet, send me your RSVP! Here is this weekend's club ride recap. Please refer to the individual ride announcement email for more specific ride details. Please note that, as has been announced, Ken Read is our new Saturday Orange Ride Captain. Also of note, we will no longer offer a Sunday Purple ride. *Saturday-8:30AM* Ride Start Location: Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at the corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road. Please arrive early for announcements and general socializing. * * *Red Ride:* Westlake/Mulholland/PCH/Decker with Jim. 47 miles. *Orange Ride:* De Anza/Mulholland/Encinal/PCH/Mulholland* *with Jerry. 45 miles *Gold Ride:* T.O./NP/HV Loop with Henry. 34 miles *Purple Ride:* Ranch Conejo Open Space with Bill S. 25 miles * * *Sunday-9:00am* Ride Start Location: Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at the corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road. Please arrive early for announcements and general socializing. * * * **GO Ride:* Norwegian Grade style with Dale. 36 miles* * * * *Social Ride:* Oak Park Loop with Henry. 20 miles *Next Week-various times* We will also have our usual course of weekday riding on Tuesday AM (Dennis's) PM (Gold-Red- Race-MTB), Thursday PM (Gold,Red ,Picnic ). Look for the Ride Captains individual announcements. Now that the school year has started, keep your eyes open for the start up of Sheri's Wednesday Landing Ride in the near future. Sunday Sept. 8th G.O. Ride

Hi CVC Members and Guests, Our revised G.O. Ride formerly called the Sunday Social Ride is typically 35 to 45 miles long with 2,200 to 4,200 feet of climbing and an average speed of 13 to 15 mph. As usual, we will meet at the Citibank parking lot and have our pre-ride announcements promptly at 9:00 AM then splitting into our groups and departing. This week we will go Norwegian Grade style with a Read Road Bypass return. Climbing Erbs to Arboles and up Westlake Blvd. 36 miles and 2950 ft. Possible extensions thru North Ranch, Oak Park and Old Agoura. For a detailed route slip go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2899417 At the ride start we will announce the regroup locations. Should you decide to deviate the ride course please notify the ride leader to prevent unnecessary or lengthily wait times at regrouping locations. This is a "drop ride" meaning that if you can't keep up with the group, and/or catch up within the re-group times - you are "on your own" to know the route from previous knowledge or by following the route slip. It is possible and/or probable that members can assist others with mechanical & other rider emergencies along the route however. Our re-group spots are meant to allow a short break & a chance for riders to catch up so that the group can ride together as much as is possible. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel the official club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Bl.(between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants, we could be asked to park elsewhere. *CVC PURPLE RIDE -- Saturday, September 7th, 8:30 a.m.** * Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart. Bill Sietsema will lead this week. *Route: Ranch Conejo Open Space; 25.5 Miles; 1,707 Feet * * **For a detailed map and route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2809777** *The *Purple Ride* is an entry level ride no one is dropped; however, if you are not planning on completing the route please inform the ride leader. Average distance is less than 25 miles at a pace of less than 12 MPH. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition. *This is a "no drop **ride**" however, please try to stay together. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe **ride**. *CVC GOLD RIDE -- Saturday, September 7th, 8:30 a.m.* Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart. *Let's beat the heat!!!* *Route: Rancho Conejo via La Granda, Ventu; back via sycamore cyn; Potrero back; 33.9 miles; 2,346 Feet **For a detailed map and route slip, go to: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3284785 * The *Gold Ride* is an Intermediate recreational ride, 30-40+ miles in length and averaging 14+ mph. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. *This is a "drop **ride**" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe **ride**. Reminder-CVC Summer BBQ 9-15

*Conejo Valley Cyclists 4th Annual Summer BBQ * *When: Sunday, Sept 15th from 1pm until 5pm.* *Where: At our new **picnic** location at the Conejo Creek North Park at the Creekside Pavillion. **1379 W Janss Road. * *Thousand Oaks, CA 9136* *The club will buy meats to BBQ (Burgers, Chicken, Hot Dogs, etc) and supply drinks. Members, Please bring your favorite side dishes to share (see below for side dish additional information)* ***If you have not already done so, Please RSVP if you are planning on attending and how many in your party. Also let me* *know what side dish you are **bringing.* *** We will need 2-3 volunteers to take care of the BBQing duties. Please contact me to help with this important task!* * * *Please note this is an exclusive invite to currently active CVC members and family only. If you are not a current CVC member and would like to join, **you can do so now by following the below link: **https://www.bikereg.com/Net/17847* Additional Information: #1 You may wonder how many people to plan for in regards to the side dishes you will be bringing. Since we will have quite a large group, it would not be reasonable to plan to have a portion for everyone. CVC PM MTB rides this week 9-3-13

Hey CVC Mountainbikers, The rides for this week are as follows. Tuesday we're riding Switchbacks/Space Mtn. Meet at the end of Moorpark Rd. at 6:00 pm Thursday we're riding in Dos Vientos. Meet at Wendy and Potrero at 6:00 pm We have been finishing close to, and in some cases after dark so at this point you should probably have your light with you. Most of our rides are approximately 8-15 miles and last around 1.5-2 hours. This is a ride done jointly with the Conejo Mountain Bike club (CMB). It is an intermediate/advanced paced ride and not a no-drop ride. but,lets stay together within our groups, and have a fun safe time. Hidden Valley Ride, Thursday Sept. 5 @ 5:15 p.m.

High heat forecasted for Thursday, so we will repeat Hidden Valley this week. ROUTE: Out-and-Back through Hidden Valley (those who want to ride a few extra miles can add the Carlisle extension). START TIME: 5:15 p.m. DISTANCE: 20-25 miles PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph. NO DROPS:A no drop ride means that the leader will wait ahead at strategic points/turns along the route, or sweep behind the group as needed, so nobody gets left behind. Faster riders who are familiar with the course and who prefer to ride ahead are encouraged to do so; they need not wait at regroup points. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area. Park along the curb.
