Sunny weather, no arm warmers needed. A nice long route, with a couple of hard climbs. A few pals to push and pull when needed. NO HEADWIND. Drivers paying attention. And the whole day free for enjoying it. Safety Tip of the Week:  Don't drink and ride.  Might as well start off the safety tips with an obvious one.  Riding while impaired increases your chances of not having a good ride. When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards · avoid bunching up · respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride -- Taylor Hodoose 805-390-2200

CVC Members, Just want to send a reminder that today is the last day to register for the Picnic and Benefit Ride in order to receive the performance shirt included in the price of the ride. It is a way cool long sleeve shirt! Today is the last day to register to receive this! You will still be able to register for the Picnic and Benefit Ride after today, but without the shirt. Fully stocked rest stops, great routes, and great fun! We have some great items from our sponsors, bike baskets, gift cards, fittings, amazing! Come share in the fun, the great riding, the great friends, and help our community along the way! The food truck is ready to go, so come on out and sign up!!! After the ride the beer garden will be going full swing, the party will be going with the music, and all of your favorite CVC brothers and sisters will be there to share the afternoon with. Some of my cycling pals have told me they have back pains while riding. My answer to that is core strength and flexibility, both of which can be found in yoga. Personally, I have a P90x dvd that I do each Thursday night. Tony is tolerable for me, and I will do the first 45 minutes which are stretching moves. The remaining 45 minutes are balance postures, and helpful, but I often don’t have enough time to spare before getting ready for the next work day. It did feel a little silly at first, but I have found that when I am not able to Yoga, the whole body feels tighter and creaky. Safety Tip of the Week: Watch for and Avoid Road Hazards-Be on the lookout for hazards such as potholes, broken glass, gravel, puddles, leaves, and dogs. All these hazards can cause a crash. Always ride with at least one hand on the handlebars. Save the “look, Ma, no hands!” tricks for the driveway at home. Carry books and other items in a bicycle carrier or backpack.  In wet weather watch your speed as surfaces may be slippery and it will take you longer to stop.
