13 Jul '12

CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, July - 15th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Average Speed/Pace). 30 to 38 miles maximum and stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. Please remember this is a social paced recovery ride and while that may mean slightly different paces for different people, I attempt to keep the group together as a whole on these rides. The theory is to recover from our Saturday training rides and socialize. With the Classic bike ride this weekend let's piggyback their start through Hidden Valley. We'll continue with the climb up the hill to Treasure Hill Ranch. A quick descent to a right on Reino Drive where can add a Dos Vientos loupe with a left on Lynn Road or a right to Green Meadow Drive and cut though the well hidden Multi Use Path behind the Los Robles Golf Course which runs us out on to Moorpark Road. Down Moorpark Road and up our new favorite hill, Las Padres Drive which connects un into the surgical center on Halland Drive which parallels the 101 FWY to Rancho Road. From there up Rancho Road to La Granada Drive where it connects to Conejo School Road. Down Conejo School Road through a few more lightly traveled residential streets and back. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you there, Dale　 Note: Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the shops or market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere

Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) This Saturday, the Purple ride will be doing the: Malibu Lake with Mulholland East Extension Hi Purple Riders, This week we will ride our Malibu Lake with Mulholland East Extension. Below is a link to the Ride With GPS website that will show you the route. Be sure to print out a route slip if you are unfamiliar with the area. The ride is 25 miles with 2244 ft. of climbing (IF you do the extension). Without the extension it is 19.2 miles, with around 1200ft of climbing. Here is the link: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1333041 To see Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Purple Ride, click here: http://www.cvcbike.org/?p=3127 The Purple ride is a beginner club ride with a 12-13 mph average pace but is open to all levels. No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire. Please check your bike prior to Saturday and make any necessary repairs. Although the Purple ride is a "no drop" ride, for the enjoyment and safety of the participants, we will keep a 12-14 MPH average. If you feel you are not Purple ready, but want to work up to the Purple level, please contact the Ride Captain who will gladly give you some pointers and advise. We strongly recommend that you come out and meet the riders! The best stepping stone to grow into a Purple rider is to ride around Westlake! Come on out this Thursday July 12th and join CVC for a ride out to Malibu Lake via Agoura/Cornell, with an optional Mulholland East Extension (5:30 p.m. Start) and Post-Ride Picnic (7:15 p.m. Start). ROUTE: Malibu Lake + optional Mulholland East Extension - Approximately 25 miles including a scenic climb up and over Mulholland Eastbound to Las Virgenes and a U-Turn back up Mulholland to Cornell. Please take a moment to review the route slip directly below this sentence for complete details. ROUTE SLIP: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1333041 PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+ / 15+ mph. NO DROPS: I wait for the slowest rider at each regroup point. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a small building followed by a grassy area. Look for other cyclists getting ready to ride. Park along the curb. BE PREPARED: A helmet is mandatory. Other things to bring include water or sports drink; I.D. Spare tube(s); CO2 cartridges or hand pump; patch kit; cell phone. SAFETY NOTE: Please do not call out "clear" at intersections. The intersection may not be clear for the rider(s) behind you. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know at a regroup stop or leave me a message (cell: 908-432-3480) so I won't be waiting or looking for you. QUESTIONS: Email me (Sherrie) at hatoolah(a)msn.com or call 908-432-3480. CVC Inclement Weather Policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. PICNIC: Starts around 7:15 p.m., immediately after we finish the ride. Because we are riding longer during these longer days, the start time is approximate. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. ATTENTION PICNIC FANS: At the last two Thursday rides, Thursday ride participants opted not to gather for a post-ride picnic. I would like to get a count of those members who will usually attend a Thursday post-ride picnic if one is scheduled. Please email me at hatoolah(a)msn.com. ADDENDUM: Round-the-lakers can start at any time and join us for the picnic at 7:15 p.m. Regards, Sherrie Felton
