What else am I going to do on a Saturday afternoon? I always break down rides into sections, what hills are left, and the steepest climbs. I don’t think too far into the ride, but I keep tabs of how many climbs are left, and where the worst one is. I figure once I pass that, I can put it in the granny gear and slowly get to the finish. Some tough days, I break down a hill into smaller bits. Pedaling around the next corner, past the road sign, any visual cue not too far in the distance. Who’s up for 4 Peaks? Safety Tip of the Week:  Move Off the Road When You Stop-Whether you are stopping because of mechanical problems or to regroup with your pals, move well off the road so you don’t interfere with traffic. It is usually best for the lead rider to pull forward in the stopping area and for other riders to pull in behind the rider in front of them. When you start up again, each cyclist should look for, and yield to, traffic. When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards · avoid bunching up · respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride -- Taylor Hodoose 805-390-2200

by president＠cvcbike.org 22 Apr '19

22 Apr '19

Save the Date and come on out to participate in the Ride of Silence. The Ride of Silence is an annual international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed and support those injured while riding on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among motorists, the public and decision makers of the dangers cyclists face on the roads, especially from other traffic. Make our Conejo Valley Strong! The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured. The 2019 Ride of Silence Summary 373 Locations World Wide 47 U.S. States 20 Countries 7 Continents 0 Words Spoken A Million Powerful Memories

After this unusually long winter, I feel like I have finally got my riding legs back. It took me a while longer than I expected, but now I’m not getting dropped like a hot rock. For me it was all a matter of putting in the miles. Some will say there are good and bad miles. Maybe for the elite, but I need the time in the seat to remind my legs of the work they need to do, and opening up the lungs. It’s not always easy to stay motivated, but worth the commitment to keep in cycling shape. Safety Tip of the Week:  Watch Out at Intersections-When approaching intersections requiring vehicles to yield or stop the lead rider will say “slowing” or “stopping” to alert those behind to the change in speed. Do not call out “clear”. Each cyclist is responsible for verifying that the way is clear before entering the intersection. Signal well and make eye contact with drivers before making a turn or slowing down.
