Saturday, 8-3-13 CVC Red & Racer Ride

Hi All: I know some club members are riding the "Tour de Big Bear" on Saturday and the Race Team is riding the Brentwood Race on Sunday. For those of us Red Riders and/or Racers riding local and looking for an option for a slightly longer distance ride than our typical 50 miles and 5,000 climbing feet rewd ride, here is a route that I propose: Westlake-JBDA Park-Mulholland-Rock Store-Encinal Canyons-PCH-Yerba Buena-Westlake As per the RWGPS route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1054193 - It shows 55 miles and 7,000+ ft climbing Depending on our Sat.'s riders preference, we can leave off the Juan Bautista de Anza Park-Mulholland part and ride from Westlake directly to the Rock Store and continue riding the rest of the route from there. 8:30am Citibank/Sprouts Parking lot NE corner = Westlake Blvd. & Agoura/Hampshire Rds. Jim Doane - Red Ride Captain Inclement weather policy: should it be actively raining or threatening adverse weather conditions, the announced club ride will be officially cancelled for safety reasons. Should members decide to ride in these conditions, it will not be considered an official club ride.

Hi Thursday Riders, I will not be able to attend/lead the ride tomorrow. If someone wants to facilitate in my absence, please let me know. Our Rock Store venture seemed to be a hit with everyone who rode last week. A vote to repeat was unanimous, so we will repeat that ride soon, at a slightly earlier (5:15 PM) start time. We are asking for your participation in improving and organizing our group club rides by your attendance and involvement at the following club meeting: *CVC Ride Committee Meeting: Wednesday, 8-14-13 7:00pm * * Westlake Community Room ( Westlake City Hall area- by Library) * * 31200 Oak Crest Dr., Westlake Village * * Snacks & refreshments will be served * The subjects of the meeting will be : 1) Establishing persons & defining roles for : Ride Captain: one person for each colored ride - who will then co-ordinate the : - Ride Leaders: members from each group that take turns creating & leading rides 2) Away Rides: Tweak current routes and create new routes and leaders for various colored rides 3) Explanation for the use of our current club database of established rides from the "Ride with GPS" computer database (RWGPS) 4) Safety Issues and community goodwill With your generous and enthusiastic support, we can keep club rides a valuable and important benefit of our club membership. Hey CVC Mountainbikers, The rides for this week are as follows. Tuesday we're riding in Sycamore Canyon. Meet at Wendy and Potrero at 6:00 pm Thursday we're riding in Malibu Creek. Meet at DeAnza park on Lost Hills Rd. at 6:00 pm Exact routes to be determined. Most of our rides are approximately 8-15 miles and last around 1.5-2 hours. This is an intermediate/advanced paced ride and not a no-drop ride. but,lets stay together within our groups, and have a fun safe time. Hi All, Another great weekend of riding is coming up and as usual, we have some great rides planned. *As a * * reminder: we made some changes to our Sunday Ride line-up. We added t he GO (Gold-Orange) Ride. This ride is aimed at the riders that use Sunday as their main weekend ride and want to go at a faster pace than the Social Ride moves at. Dale Smith will be the Captain of the new GO Ride, and **Henry Montalvo will Captain the Social Ride. * Here is this weekend's club ride recap. Please refer to the individual ride announcement email for more specific ride details. *Saturday-8:30 AM* Ride Start Location: Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at the corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road. Please arrive early for announcements and general socializing. * * *Red Ride:* Old Topanga/Fernwood with Jim *Orange Ride:* Stunt out/back/lakes with TBD *Gold Ride:* Stunt with Henry *Purple Ride:* Erbes/Olsen with TBD * * *Sunday-9:00 am* Ride Start Location: Citibank/Sprouts parking lot at the corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road. Last Nights CVC Members Meeting

Hi Everyone, Last night we had our members meeting scheduled for the Westlake Village Community Room. Late in the afternoon we found out that the city had us booked incorrectly in the wrong room and there would not be enough space. Henry and Sheri kicked it into high gear and found a last minute spot at a nearby park, and we made the switch. Again, I am sorry to those that were inconvenienced by the move. Well, The park turned out to be a really nice change. The evening was beautiful and we had some great grub thanks to our members and their cooking (and take-out) skills. It was a blast. We had a very nice presentation By Jennifer Littles and the Boyscouts about the their long standing participation with Cruising. They also presented us with a nice plaque to show their appreciation. A few of last nights topics were discussions about Cruisin Charities,our need for ride leaders, and our open Board of Directors positions. We will be having a Ride Committee meeting early next month, so keep on the lookout for it. We will also be having a Cruisin Volunteer meeting in early September. Sunday July 28th G.O. Ride

Hi Fellow CVC members and guests, Please come out and join us for our G.O.ride. (14 Mph Avg. Speed). Approximately 25-35 miles and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. Here is the ride link created by Richard Fortune. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2929411 The plan for this Sunday is to head North on Reyes Adobe, cut through the school which puts us on Lindero Cyn., where we will find our way to the Multi Use Path that meanders through Oak Canyon Park. >From there we can take the not too traveled residential side streets to work our way South which puts us around Agoura High and heads to Chesborough and Agoura Road. Our planned route is out Cornell road with a Malibou Lake loop and back via Agoura road. Those riders that need to return earlier may decide to skip this part. Anyone needing a few more miles may want to add the Rockstore climb returning by way of Westlake Blvd. This route uses lightly traveled roads that avoid the traffic of the major streets. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. Things to have: Helmet !!! - Water to complete the ride or at least to reach the next water stop - Tools to perform minor repairs -Chain repair linkage - Inner-tube and pump (or the like) - Cellular phone - Food to replenish energy. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride. Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the shops or market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere.

Rock Store Ride - Thursday, July 25th @ 5:30 PM

CVC Gold/Orange Riders: Let's ride the Rock Store route this week. I am including a link to the route that leader Dale takes on Tuesday as a reference, although our route will be slightly different. Please note: We will begin from our usual starting place on Triunfo Canyon Road. ROUTE: Rock Store Start Triunfo Canyon Rd RT Westlake Blvd RT Agoura Rd RT Cornell Rd X Mulholland Hwy (Stop Sign, Cornell becomes Lake Vista) Regroup Corner of Mulholland & Lake Vista Dr Continue Lake Vista Dr LT Mulholland Hwy X Kanan Road (CAUTION FAST TRAFFIC, HEED STOP SIGN) Regroup Mulholland at Encinal/Mulholland Split BR Continue on Mulholland Hwy RT Westlake Blvd/23/Decker Regroup Westlake Blvd after Potrero RT Agoura Rd RT Lindero Rd RT Triunfo Canyon Rd Finish Triunfo Canyon Rd RT = Right Turn, LT = Left Turn, X = Cross Road, BR = Bear Right DISTANCE: 20-25 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride that includes both Gold and Orange paces averaging 14+/15+ mph. Please Note: The ride this week involves more ascending and descending than the other three rides we do on Thursdays. Be prepared. NO DROPS: I will wait ahead at strategic points/turns along the route, or sweep behind the group as needed, so nobody gets left behind. Faster riders who are familiar with the course and who prefer to ride ahead are encouraged to do so; they need not wait at regroup points. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the Dam (tennis) Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: If a QUORUM is present, the Post-Ride Picnic will begin immediately after we complete the ride. Please bring something to share: cheese crackers, fruit, olives, pretzels, cookies, whatever; a beverage and something to drink it out of if you don't want to drink it out of the bottle; something to sit on and a warm jacket. Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, significant others, etc. QUESTIONS: Email Sherrie at hatoolah(a)msn.com or call 908-432-3480. SAFETY NOTES: A helmet is mandatory. I.D., water or sports drink, a snack, spare tube(s), CO2 cartridges or hand pump, patch kit, cell phone are recommended. Please do not call out "clear" at intersections.
