Hello fellow advocates, bicycle clubs, and loud voices,
*I am urgently requesting your help regarding making PCH through Malibu
safer for bikes!* Caltrans is planning to repave the Western end of PCH
through Malibu and, at the last minute, added in some safety upgrades --
improved bike lanes, more dark-sky compliant lights, some sidewalks in a
few locations, etc. * While there is a LOT more we want to see done, this
is a less expensive and faster way for Caltrans to improve the safety of
PCH with existing funds. *
*The Problem*
The Malibu Planning Commission has been delaying a vote, criticizing every
aspect of the plan, and, *unless we act, they will likely vote against it
TONIGHT AT 6:30 PM.* Caltrans's maintenance budget is facing a $1.6 billion
shortfall. If this plan isn't approved or is further delayed, it is VERY
likely that Caltrans will reallocate the $55 million for this project to
other shovel-ready maintenance projects.
This will leave the western end of PCH without any significant safety
upgrades for the next several years to a decade or longer, resulting in
more deaths and serious injuries.
*Your Help is URGENTLY Needed*
SAFE has started an email call to action. So far, 255 emails have been sent
in support of the Malibu Planning Commission. We need more people to share
the word, and I am reaching out to all of you to see if you can email in
support and share this on social media, or send it out to your list.

for tonight.
I apologize! I know this is last-minute. So much has been going on
regarding road safety issues (good and bad) that it's been hard to think
too far ahead, so if you can't do anything on this, it's okay.
Thank you for your help on this.
Best, Damian
