CVC RIDE PREVIEW May 16-May 21 "Stopping!" ..... With everyone in a group coming to a full stop, there is a domino effect of the back end having to hammer it in order to catch up. So, for those in front, please soft pedal until the entire group has come through and re-joined. -COMING UP- Several things on the horizon! Ride of Silence Wednesday, May 20th, starting from The Lakes in Thousand Oaks, 5:30p. Gravel Ride-New A little road, a little dirt, lots of fun. Put some tread or knobbies on your road bike, or use your MTB or cyclocross bike for exploring the fire roads in our 'back yard'. Details to come. Velodrome Day-New Ride the banked track in Encino on a 'fixie'. That's right, learn how to ride a track bike with no gears, no brakes! No worries, we'll start with a lesson first. Details to come. Hill Climbing and Descending Clinics Keith Ketterrer of Roundtrip Cycling will be holding clinics for improving our hill climbing and descending skills. Do not park next to the homes. ** This is considered a "no drop" ride. The ride leader will keep an eye on everyone. No one is left behind. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. I received the below note from club friend and city partner Kathy Lowry. I hope you can participate on Friday. Good afternoon! I hope the chance of rain forecast for this Friday doesn't discourage you from joining in the City's Bike to Work Day event. Please consider celebrating National Bike to Work Day and marking the completion of the Erbes Road Construction Project with a leisurely bike ride down Erbes Road! City Manager Scott Mitnick will be joined alongside other City employees and residents on Friday, May 15, 2015, as everyone cruises along the new bike lanes on Erbes Road. The ride starts at the intersection of Avenida de los Arboles and Erbes Road and commences at the Civic Arts Plaza on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Please meet in the Oakbrook Plaza parking lot by 7:30 am. If you’re riding your bike to work from anywhere in the City on Friday, May 15, please stop by the Civic Arts Plaza for a free bike tune-ups courtesy of Westlake Cyclery, breakfast refreshments, bike related giveaways, and informational materials between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. Hi CVC Members and Guests, Please join the Tuesday evening G.O. ride to the Rock Store ride leaving from The Landing. Rockstore, Decker Canyon - around Westlake Lake. 25 + miles with 2,100' of climbing. Same route as the Tuesday Red Ride (without upper Encinal Canyon). Re-group Cornell / Mulholland, top of Rock Store at bottom of Westlake for a lake lap. Here's the route using "Ride with GPS". Well, rain is predicted again Thursday and Friday, so let's go enjoy our day WEDNESDAY without it and Let's Go Ride! Wed. afternoon 3: 45 at the landing! 20-23 mile ride about 14-15 avg. The fast paced Rock Store ride continues on Tuesday May 12th at 5:30 pm PDT sharp. The ride leaves from the Landings parking lot. Mellow single/double pace line until Cornell. Then not so mellow. Leaving from the Landing, the Tuesday-Thursday ride is a 25 to 40 mile intermediate level ride (between gold and gold rush). There are very few cars out at this time and the weather is nice and cool. Come and join us. No rider gets left behind.
