THURSDAY 5:30 pm Red Ride from the Landings

The Thursday evening red ride will resume on Thursday May 15th at 5:30 pm PDT. The ride leaves from the Landings parking lot at 5:30 pm sharp. We will start with the traditional ride up Westlake / Decker to the Top of the World (top of Yerba Buena). http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4715111 The route will change week to week and may also include 1) Reverse Rock Store Loop 2) Up and over to PCH via Encinal 3) Up and over to PCH via Encinal and Mulholland 4) Whatever else riders want to do. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel the official club ride. Dear Cruisin' the Conejo Volunteers, I can't thank you enough for volunteering your time and energy to help "Cruisin' The Conejo" run smoothly. We have heard so many stories of people having incredible rides, and how wonderful all of the people involved were. >From the muscle power setting up Friday afternoon, (Lou, Martin, David, Jerry, Glenn, Bill, Matt, Dennis, Craig P.) to the registration team run by Cathy, and our strong arm Brenda, Lois for helping with our set up.. The great people registering and handing out jerseys and t shirts, the raffle ticket sales, the ever important rest stops..(Congrats to Beth, Cathy, Ken, for doing a great job on their inaugural runs ) And thank you Greeters, Kathy Lowery, Jeanne, and Teri!!! You got them going! I can't emphasize enough, GREAT JERSEY Glenn! SO happy to see it live and on the riders. Looked so good! Great design! My thanks to the CVC booth, run by Sheila and Janet. Sheila staying to the biter end. Loved watching some of you take off on your rides after working, in your new jerseys, spreading your joy of riding with our Cruisin' riders. Thanks Kay, Lisa, Tex, Lois, Scott... There are so many people to thank for the success of Cruisin', from the leadership and head honcho, at the top, Lee Cole, to my incredible husband who stands beside him, (and me), Kent Koral and the endless hours you both put into planning and driving this successful event, to Henry Montalvo for his continued support and all his work in the marketing and logistics, to the team leaders, Beth, Cathy, Ken Reed at SAG, Cam for the hours road marking, Dale Smith, for running all over the place, to the numerous people who volunteered at registration, including Bobby and George who started off sorting t shirts and jerseys, to raffle ticket sales led by expert Harlene, and carried on during the beer hours with Russ. Tex, so nice to meet you, welcome to our club! Thanks for helping us with registration and ticket sales! Thank you to those that got up early, John Caffrey, David Persons, Janet Davis, Mark, you got our riders parked, set and safely off! And again, thank you early birds for your help with set up, with registration, and all you did! Phil, wow, a full day. Hope you got a Jacuzzi, and Congrats on your VIP race tickets this coming weekend! Oh my gosh, after being exhausted, thank you to those that helped with clean up! We got to go to sleep because of you! Jerry's son, Kent's son. on and on. Richard, David, Henry, Phil, Dale, John, Lee, so many! And Jim Doane, the raffle expert, stalwart, you name it; you make Cruisin' the fun it is! Kept our day going and going. and thanking those that helped you , Steve!!!! And so many others! Not to mention again, my non-trained, expert Master of Ceremonies, of the day, hour and event, Kent Koral! You made it come alive. Who taught you the Macarena? Or Was it Brian? Thanks to Caitlin, our treasurer who was there at hand with all we needed to make the day run smooth. Thank you! Joyce, loved the cycling jewelry.. Would love to see a website where our club can turn to when they want to wear a beautiful piece! The CVC signs were great. To those that put themselves out at rest stops all the way to Moorpark, Camarillo, and in-between, thank you David N., Lance, Jack, Mike, Don, Harlene, Lance, Connie, John, Teri, Jerry, Lou, Mark, Scott, Jack T. Sue, Melissa, Vernon, Martin, for driving out there, for representing our club, for making riders feel special, and for your team spirit. You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you RACE TEAM and others led by Ken Reed, for handling SAG and all that involves. For handling tired riders, flats, and every other issue. I hear the hit of the day was the Jr. Ride led by Michael Levy, and others who helped. I was on the road at the time, so I know there were others involved. Marty? That was a huge success. And thanks to George and the Lux Pro Development team for being such gracious hosts to our Jr. Tour riders. Sung Chang ends it all by entering all of the names into our database. Yikes, I could go on and on.. And if I am not naming you, please forgive me, please know, I am thanking every one of you. You make our club what it is. a club that brings us together for this once a year event, which requires the work of so many to help so many. So great to be able to work together. CVC Ride of Silence, Wednesday, May 21st, 5:30pm

Thousand Oaks Blvd. Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 * On Wednesday, May 21st, at 5:30 PM, Conejo Valley Cyclists and the City of Thousand Oaks will participate in the Ride of Silence at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks <http://shoplakes.com/>. The Ride of Silence, held during National Bike Month <http://www.bikeleague.org/content/national-bike-month>, is a free event to honor fellow bicyclists who have been injured or killed by motorists. It allows us the opportunity to help raise awareness of bicyclist’s rights to the road, and to let motorists, the public, and bicyclists know they must SHARE the ROAD. I ask that you help us spread this message by attending this important event for our community. Please invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, teachers, and anyone else who is interested in helping us create a safer community. Join hundreds of fellow bicyclists in solemn remembrance of those who have been killed or injured by motorists with a short 10 mile ride, escorted by the Thousand Oaks Police, on roads we all must share. By riding in silence you are standing shoulder to shoulder with your fellow bicyclists throughout the state, the country, and the world. By riding in silence, you will help educate drivers to be more vigilant when approaching all bicyclists on all our roads. Please arrive at 5:30pm for the preride ceremony; Ride leaves promptly at 6:30pm Special thanks to long time member, and past president, JC Simmons for working with the city of Thousand Oaks to help organize this important event. CVC GO Thursday Ride, May 15th @ 5:30 p.m.

I will be unable to lead this week as my father is having major surgery on Wednesday. I propose a Hidden Valley ride to keep things simple. Those who plan to ride, please decide/organize amongst yourselves. What: CVC GO Thursday Ride When: Thursday May 15, 2014 @ 5:30 p.m.Where: See Directions to Start below Route: Hidden Valley/Treasure Hill out-and-back DISTANCE: 20-25 miles. PACE: This is an intermediate level ride. The group includes mixed paces averaging 13 - 15+ mph. NO DROPS: The leader will sweep behind the group or wait ahead at strategic points/turns along the route, as needed, so nobody gets left behind. Faster riders who are familiar with the course and who prefer to ride ahead are encouraged to do so; they need not wait at regroup points. DIRECTIONS TO RIDE START: Triunfo Canyon Rd. in Westlake Village, just west of the dam, Westlake Tennis Club and little yacht club building. From the 101 Freeway, take Lindero Canyon south until it ends at Triunfo. Go right on Triunfo a couple hundred yards. You will see a grassy area where we PICNIC after the ride. Park along the curb. PICNIC: The picnic will take place the first Thursday of each month. All club members and their guests are invited. For our kickoff May 1st picnic, I will bring some beverages, cups, fruit, cheese and crackers to get us started. Feel free to bring your own snacks to share as well. Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on and an extra layer for warmth, just in case. QUESTIONS: Email or call Sherrie at hatoolah(a)msn.com / 908.432.3480. SAFETY NOTES: 1. A helmet is mandatory. 2. I.D., water or sports drink, a snack, cell phone. 3. Have on your bike or person everything you need to change a flat: spare tube(s), CO2 cartridges or hand pump, patch kit. 4. Please do not call out “clear” at intersections and turns. 5. If you hear someone call out “clear” while approaching a turn or intersection, or anywhere else for that matter, please disregard it and make your own decision about the safety status of the turn or intersection. 6. If you start with the group but decide to cut the ride short or take a different route, please let me know. Tuesday 5:30 pm Rock Store Ride

The red race pace Rock Store ride will continue on Tuesday May 13th at 5:30 pm PDT. The ride leaves from the* Landings parking lot* at 5:30 pm sharp. The ride includes Upper Encinal. We will do the sprint down Lindero to Agoura Road and turn left on Agoura and then left again on Lakeview back to the Landings. Lindero - Agoura Road to Cornell - Hammer fest down Cornell - Malibou Lake - Rock Store - Upper Encinal - Stingers - Decker Canyon - around Westlake Lake - sprint on Lindero - Lakeview - Landings Re-group at the Encinal Y for about 5 minutes. RWGPS route for the entire route including Upper Encinal: 29.1 miles 2,400' of climbing RWGPS with Upper Encinal Extension <http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4160220> It many be windy earlier in the day but the forecast shows ok winds by ride time. CVC RIDE PREVIEW May 10-May 16 Hi all! Cruisin' the Conejo this Saturday! If you haven't signed up as a volunteer yet, don't worry, come join your cycling buddies and show up this Friday afternoon/evening and help set up tables and chairs, and registration. Go to the start/finish at the parking lot behind Skyworks on Hillcrest in Newbury Park. A couple of events to put in your calendar: -Ride of Silence - May 21, 2014 at 6:30 PM. The Ride of Silence is a ride to honor fellow bicyclists who have been injured or killed by motorists. It allows us the opportunity to help raise awareness of bicyclist’s rights to the road, and to let motorists, the public, and bicyclists know they must SHARE the ROAD. http://www.cvcbike.org/ros/ -Bike to Work Day: Friday May 16th, The City of Thousand Oaks will be hosting a "Pit Stop" in front of the Civic Arts Plaza on T.O. Blvd from 7am-9am. -THE RIDES Saturday and Sunday: No Club rides scheduled Tuesday: The Landing parking lot Gold/Orange-5:15pm-Dale Smith points the Store Stompers up Rock Store. Racer Ride-5:30pm-Jonathan Woodbury starts the Mean Machines for a Rock Store 'n more ride. MTB Ride-5:30pm-Kent Koral will help lead the Dirt Devils. Location and route TBA. Check your emails for announcement early in the week. Wednesday: 3:45pm at The Landing parking lot Landing Ride-Sheri Leiken will lead the Mid-Week Wonders out Hidden Valley and back. Check your emails for any changes early in the week. Thursday: 5:30pm Go Thursday Ride**-Sherrie Felton leads a Hidden Valley run from the small park on Triunfo west of the tennis courts across the lake from The Landing. This week includes an after ride picnic. Check your emails for all the details. MTB Ride-Location and route TBA. Check your emails for announcement early in the week. **-This is considered a "no drop" ride. The ride leader will keep an eye on everyone. No one is left behind. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. That’s all for now, folks. Hey CVC'rs In just a few days, we'll be celebrating Cruisin' the Conejo's 30th anniversary. We're thrilled to be hosting the Conejo Valley's largest annual charity cycling event. And, we are thankful many of there will be there to help us celebrate this great day along with other club riders, club volunteers, vendors, and charitable organizations from around Southern California and the nation. We don't want anyone left out. Below is a little update on what is happening.
