*CVC GOLD RIDE -- Saturday, May 4th, 8:30 AM* Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) for announcements; promptly at 8:30 am, then split into our groups to depart. *LET'S WHAT HAPPENS* *Route: Cruisin' Prep Ride * For a detailed map and route slip, go to*: * http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2408425 ; 40.5 Miles; 3,205 Feet Sanctioned Rides Safety Requirements: - Helmets must be worn - Obey all traffic laws - Where provided, ride in the bike lane - Ride to the right, Pass on the left - Point-out hazards & approaching situations to riders behind you - Ride 2 abreast only where it is safe to do so; Single file where it is not. - Never ride more than 2 abreast - Avoid passing other riders on down-hills. - Indicate your intentions verbally For safe cycling, CVC recommends the following: - Ear buds and headphones are not permitted - Ride predictably; Avoid rapid changes in movement - Be vigilant for doors opening on parked cars - Use a mirror ** The *Gold Ride* is an Intermediate recreational ride, 30-40+ miles in length and averaging 14+ mph. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition (check expiration on helmet inner tag) and that your bike is in working condition as well. *This is a "drop **ride**" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe **ride**. We will regroup regularly and to allow everyone a chance to ride together.* *Things to have: *Helmet !!! - *Water to complete the ride or at least to reach the next water stop* - Tools to perform minor repairs - Chain repair linkage - Inner-tube and pump (or the like) - Cellular phone - Food to replenish energy*.* *Inclement weather policy*: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, May 5th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Hi CVC members and friends, Come out and join us for a social paced recovery ride (14 Mph Avg. Speed). 25-35 miles max. and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. In the interest of bicycle safety and harmony those riders that are looking for a faster pace please choose a ride leader and leave before the social ride! This week we will warm up by going around the lake and then towards Conejo School Road/La Granada pass through to Erbes. North down the hill on Erbes to Arboles where we will go up and around our Lang Ranch loop. From there a slight climb up Westlake to Valley Spring where we will wind our way up and around County Club Drive back out to Kanan. Kanan to Fountainwood which we will use to connect back into Thousand Oaks Blvd. An optional Forest Cove - Reyes Adobe to Lake Lindero scenic ride and then back to socialize. Possible extension at the end of the ride to include Hidden Valley and beyond. After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. See you Sunday, Even though we are attempting to offer our coolest ride routes during high heat days, some considerations and situations that you should be aware of for riding in high heat in our area: 1) Stay hydrated and be aware to keep your electrolytes balanced 2) Road surface conditions: asphalt tar & repair drips become semi liquid and especially slippery example: descending Decker/Westlake has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar Try to ride over them minimizing tire contact 3) Goat head thorns have returned and caused six flats on this past week's Orange ride Carry and extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs 4) Be aware of other riders signs of heat exhaustion and offer assistance as applicable Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Blvd. (between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the shops or market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants we could be asked to park elsewhere.

Hi CVC Red Riders:Since it's forecasted to be a warm week-end, let's ride the Coast with a return route of our choicethat we can decide at the second re-group spot: Sycamore Cove Beach park.Those hard-chargers might decide to ride Deer Creek, Cothrin & Yerba Buena? Saturday, May 4th, 8:30am Westlake Village Citibank/Sprouts Parking lot: NE corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura/Hampshire Rd.'s Westlake-Hidden Valley-Portero Canyon-Coast Route & return either Mulholland or Decker? Here's the route: Loop around Westlake Lake ( from the East side) L on Westlake Blvd R Portero Rd. R Reino Rd. L Lynn/Portrero Continue through Dos Vientos & Portero Canyon 1st Re-group: CSCI College driveway L Hueneme Rd. Route: Westlake to Avenida, Erbs, La Grenada, Encino Vista, Hillcrest and around the Lake finish. Average distance is less than 25 miles at a pace of less than 12 MPH. It is mandatory to have & wear a helmet. It is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is in good condition. This is a "no drop ride" however, please try to stay together. As always we will try to stick together & have a fun safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together.
