CVC Tuesday Evening Novice to Intermediate MTB ride Meeting this week at Cheseboro Rd and Cheseboro Canyon Rd in Agoura Hills. http://goo.gl/maps/HD2H Start time is 6:00pm This weeks ride is back at Cheseboro. We will follow Cheseboro Canyon Rd all the way up to Shepard's Flat. Then come back down. About 9 miles total. . You do not need a fully suspended mountain bike or any particular mountain biking skills. We will help you get going. I need to stop riding the mountain bike for a while so Joan Sauber will be taking over as the Novice MTB ride leader. She has been at most all of the rides so far and is a good rider and leader. Hi CVC'ers: THREE Saturday's from now ( the 16th) - I propose that we ride in the San Gabriel Mt.'s as this month's "Away Ride" Connie Soloway has generously agreed to drive her car as a SAG vehicle for our water, snacks, supplies & bike tubes & tools So we will be riding "fully supported" this time: We will have coolers & ice - please bring what else you'd like for drinks & snacks and/or a couple $ to help defray the supplies cost Glendora Mt. Rd. - Mt. Baldy Village -Claremont-La Verne-San Dimas-Glendora Saturday, 6-19th 9:00am Start: 9:00am Glendora High School: Foothill Blvd. & Valley Center Dr., Glendora CA - parking lot on East side of Valley Center Dr. (south of school buildings) Car Driving Instructions: ( 50 miles from Westlake ) Travel to #210 Frwy: East to Glendora Exit: Lone Hill Ave (turn left at bottom of off -ramp: going N) First major intersection is route # 66 = turn left 1 block on Rte # 66 bear to right on a diagonal street called: Compromise Line Rd. about 1/4 mi. = R on Valley Center Ave. look for Glendora H.S. Parking lot on Right side ( East side of road) Bike Ride description: See ride # 33 on our club website: cvcbike.org (thanks Mitch) for the "Ride with GPS" route slip & map - link: http://www.cvcbike.org/?p=1854 Moderate climbing & beautiful views most of the way in multiple directions: Urban, canyons, reservoirs & mountains. Suitable to Orange & Red Club riders: both in distance & overall climbing feet: Many places to turn around and ride back downhill if you so desire After twenty miles - we'll descend to Baldy Village (water, food, beer) Challenge: while others are 'lunching" at the Lodge - you can climb the extra credit steep switchbacks Then we can ride back either of two routes - we'll see who wants to ride which ..... 1) Downhill to Claremont, La Verne, across a couple small rollers & bike path to San Dimas & Glendora - see the route & map above OR..... 2) Re-ride the route in the opposite direction ( retrace ride - I didn't draw map) - steep but relatively short climb ( .8 mi. out of Baldy Village then mostly downhill on Glendora Ridge Rd. ( some rollers) & GMR back to cars - less traffic this way and nicer canyon views Ride Specifics: Total ride approx. 50+ mile loop Climbing concentrated in first one-third of ride - similiar to our Yerba Buena Rd. The total ride is easier than riding all of Yerba Buena however. If you like our Mulholland Hwy ride from PCH - you'll like this ride even better. First 4 miles (4-12% grades max.) averages 8-9% Then ride across Ridge (4-5%) overlooking Azusa Canyon: Morris Reservoir & San Gabriel Reservoir Last turn - Newman Point overlook : 6.2 miles - before heading due East Top of climbing part: 8.5 Descend to Intersection of Glendora Ridge Rd. at :8.9 mi. Ride for 11.1 miles ( mostly gradual swooping uphills & downhills) Cow Canyon Saddle : at 20.0 miles Steep descent (.8 mi.) to Mt. Baldy Village (at 4,000' elevation) Stop for water-food, beer at Mt. CVC Sunday Purple Fun Ride -- Sunday June 10th 9:00 AM Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Route: Westlake to Kanan and returning on Agoura. Weather forecast is for 74 Deg., at the start the temperature should be in the low 50 Deg. Hi Everyone, On Sunday June 10th. starting at 9:00 AM we are riding up Westlake, across Kanan and returning on Agoura Please use the restroom before departing. The Purple Ride is a no drop ride that is design to improve members riding skills. Please lets stay together, be alert and aware of your surroundings and obey all traffic laws. It is mandatory to have and ware a helmet and it is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is valid (check expiration on helmet inner tag, usually good for five years) and in good working condition. It is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. Things to have: Water to complete the ride or at least to reach the next water stop. Tools to perform minor repairs. Chain repair linkage. Inner-tube and inflated device. Cellular phone. Food to replenish energy. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the rideroute has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. CVC Club Ride Recap for Week of 6-08-12 Hi CVC'rs, Here’s this upcoming week’s club ride recap summarizing the rides and identifying the club ride leaders. Note that each club colored ride has a “Ride Captain” with a team of “Ride Leaders” who will lead the specific announced rides as posted by the Ride Captains. CVC Sunday Social / Recovery Ride -- Sunday, June 10th - 9:00am Meeting at Citibank Parking Lot - Westlake Village -- Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (North East Corner) Come out and join us for a social paced ride (14 Mph Avg. Speed). Approximately 30 miles and then stay a while to socialize afterwards by having an after-ride beverage and snack. Up in the rotation this week is the popular Northern and North Western Thousand Oaks / Lynn Ranch ride. For those that have not ridden this route before we climb North up Westlake to Arboles. A quick hop over to Pederson and around to Big Sky / Wildwood Park. We then cut through the residential area of Thousand Oaks to avoid Lynn Road where we end up in Lynn Ranch. A couple return options exist with a final cut through at what I call Pentagon Park back to Village Glen Plaza. See you there ! Dale After ride socializing - Natural Cafe' Restaurant - Patio and/or front grassy courtyard area. Many options at this location for beverage and food establishments. Weather forecast is for 81 Deg., at the start the temperature should be in the mid 60 Deg. Hi Everyone, On Saturday June 9th. starting at 8:30 AM we are riding through Hidden Valley down Potrero to PCH and returning on Encinal Canyon a perfect day for a coastal route. Please use the restroom before departing. CVC Saturday Purple Ride 8:30 Malibou Lake Meeting at the corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura Road (Citibank Parking Lot in Westlake Village) Greetings, SPECIAL NOTE: Saturday the 16th is the Calabasas Ride2Recovery "Honor Ride". I will announce a REGULAR PURPLE RIDE route that will not interfere with that ride & we will need a Purple Ride Leader for SAT the 16th. While CVC is not officially sponsoring that ride, several members have signed up and I will be gone for that ride, also. This week's Saturday Purple Ride takes us on the Malibou Lake Loop. It is 19.2 miles, with around 1200ft of climbing - all rollers or not much worse! Remember - you can loop Westlake at the end for an extra 5 miles of flat rolling! Afterward, join the other members at the Natural Cafe for lunch! No one gets dropped and no one is left behind. Please make sure to wear the appropriate riding attire. Please check your bike prior to Saturday and make any necessary repairs. Although the Purple ride is a "no drop" ride, for the enjoyment and safety of the participants, we will keep a 12-14 MPH average. If you feel you are not Purple ready, but want to work up to the Purple level, please contact the Ride Captain who will gladly give you some pointers and advise. We strongly recommend that you come out and meet the riders! The best stepping stone to grow into a Purple rider is to ride around Westlake! When you can sweep those 5 flat miles at a steady 12 to 14 mph pace, and still feel ready for more, then you will be able to handle many of the standard Purple routes.
