WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT Hey CVC, After a crazy week of heat and winds, the temperature is forecast to be perfect again this weekend, with Saturday and Sunday in the mid 70's. It may be overcast, humid and a bit windy, though, so drink, drink, drink! On Saturday, we have four rides going out. The Red Ride will be doing a "Nosco Training Ride" down to the coast, up Mulholland, down Encinal and back up Latigo. The Orange ride is also heading for the coast through Hidden Valley, with a return back up Encinal and return by Decker. The Orange Ride is going through Thousand Oaks, down Norweigen Grade and out into Moorpark for a Grimes Canyon Backwards loop. The purple ride is going over Foothill, looping through TO up Lynn, back over Janse, Erbes and Lakeview. On Sunday, we've got three rides going out. The Red Group will be looping through Agoura Hills up Kanan, then back around Lynn to Dos Vientos and a Hidden Valley return. The G.O. Ride will do a cruise through Thousand Oaks, then a climbing loop up Erbes twice with a return over Westlake. The Social ride is doing a nice easy spin up to Malibu Lake and back. We've also got midweek rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, including the Rock Store race ride Tuesday night, cruise rides Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and a Wednesday afternoon ride with Sherie. With all the winds this week, there will be debris everywhere! Always warn riders behind you of everything in the bike lanes! You are their eyes when you are on the front. Our Purple and Newcomer courses are getting a fantastic response. Please help spread the word and bring friends! We now have regular purple rides every Saturday, and another Newcomer's class and ride coming up on November 5th. Come join us for the Monthly Newcomers Class, with lots of great info from bike checks, to riding strategies, to group dynamics. Let me know if I can help with anything bike or ride-related. October 30, Social Costume Ride Next Sunday, we'll make our Social ride a "costume optional" ride. A lot less climbing and a lot more fun. Who's brave enough to wear that Sumo suit? :) Family and friends pace around the lake and Westlake Village.
November 3, Mike Nosco Memorial Ride CVC will make a donation to this local charity ride (with special honor to our own Howard Levy). November 5, Newcomer's Class and Ride Bring friends, family and new riders of all levels. We cover a lot of great general cycling information and group riding skills. Then a fun, moderate cruise to practice what we learned. Join us!

Evening Ride - Leader Jonathan Woodbury The fast paced Rock Store ride continues on Tuesday at 5:00 pm PDT sharp. Two groups roll out at different paces, and will both start at 5pm because of the earlier sunset. Both rides leave from the Landing's parking lot.

Wednesday: Afternoon Ride - Leader Sheri Leiken Come join us for the Wednesday Afternoon ride leaving the landing at 3:45. Pace is a gold/orange but about 19 miles. We will do a Hidden Valley Route this week. It's a great route to come try since it is an out and back in the same direction.

SAFETY REMINDERS If there is a marked bike lane, cyclists may ride shoulder to shoulder. Single file otherwise. There is no three or four abreast at any time while moving.If you are wearing a CVC kit, you represent the club, so please be sure to follow the rules of the road. When riding with CVC, you agree to: * Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order. * Ride to the right, pass on the left. * Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane. * Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents) * Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard * Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians* Ride predictably and remind other to be safe * Be a bicycling ambassador
PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes.
ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together.
If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader.
Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.
