Route: Latigo to Upper Encinal returning on Mulholland to PCH.

The PURPLE ride is going on this Month’s Away Ride! Start is at 8:00 AM at Zuma Beach. Free parking is available on PCH and Westward Beach Road. Parking lot fee is $12.00.
The Orange, Red and Gold Group is riding Latigo. Gold is descending Encinal, Orange Mulholland and Red Yorba Buena. The purple is staying on the coast. I STRONGLY urge the Purples to consider the GOLD route.
Starting from the Endd of Westward Beach Road, we are riding up to Point Dune to a right on PCH left on Latigo, Upper Encinal, Mulholland to PCH:

Re-grouping Locations:
First re-group top of first section of Latigo climb for Red, Orange and Gold. Second re-group Calamigos Ranch. Third re-group Encinal before the split.
It is mandatory to have and ware a helmet and it is the rider's responsibility to ensure that the helmet is valid (check expiration on helmet inner tag, usually good for five years) and in good working condition. It is not a "no drop ride" but as always let's try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride.
Things to have: Water to complete the ride or at least to reach the next water stop. Tools to perform minor repairs. Chain repair linkage. Inner-tube and inflated device. Cellular phone. Food to replenish energy.
Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.
Even though we are attempting to offer our coolest ride routes during high heat days, here are some considerations and situations that you should be aware of for riding in high heat in our area:
1) Stay hydrated and be aware to keep your electrolytes balanced 2) Road surface conditions: asphalt tar & repair drips become semi liquid and especially slippery example: descending Decker/Westlake has multiple places where asphalt cracks have been sealed with tar. Try to ride over them minimizing tire contact and stay more upright to prevent accidents. 3) Goat head thorns have returned and caused six flats on this past week's Orange ride. Carry and extra tube or two - and even a patch kit for flat repairs 4) Be aware of signs of heat exhaustion and offer immediate assistance as applicable.
Heat Exhaustion Symptoms · Pale with cool, moist skin · Profuse sweating · Muscle cramps or pains · Faint or dizzy feeling · Headache, weakness, thirst, and nausea · Core (rectal) temperature elevated-usually more than 100 F (37.7 C) and the pulse rate increased
Heat stroke symptoms · Unconsciousness or markedly abnormal mental status (dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, or coma) · Flushed, hot, and dry skin (although it may be moist initially from previous sweating or from attempts to cool the person with water) · Blood pressure may be high or low · Hyperventilation · Rectal (core) temperature of 105 F (40.5 C) or more
After the ride, please join us at one of the many refueling options available at the finish such as Natural Cafe, Sea Casa, East Coast Bagel, Sprouts Market, etc..
Please remember to park in the area along Westlake Bl.(between the street and the first driveway aisle) and not in the area in front of the Shops/Market. If we don't respect the requests of the lease tenants, we could be asked to park elsewhere.
