Question of the week: Live to ride, or ride to live? I always feel like I have to ride to live. If I don’t get out and ride, my family thinks I have way too much energy. Apparently, it’s hard for the teens to sleep in on a weekend morning if I'm home and not out riding. But most of the time I am living to ride. I think about where I want to ride for the week, when I’m going to ride, and get disgruntled when work interferes with my riding. I need the work to fund my riding, but otherwise it’s a job and not a passion. “If biking is your passion, set aside time to enjoy a good ride”.
Safety tip of the week: Put down the phone-This shouldn’t even need to be said, but talking on the phone, texting, or checking Instagram while biking endangers everyone. Also refrain from listening to headphones http://www.slate.com/articles/life/a_fine_whine/2012/11/cycling_with_headphones_is_incredibly_dumb_why_does_anyone_do_it.html that close off the ear, because they can make it more difficult to hear approaching cars and pedestrians.
When riding with us: · wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order · stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise · not overlap wheels · descend carefully! Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots · pass slower riders on the left · ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards · avoid bunching up · respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians · always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions · we are a "rules of the road" cycling club · Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride

I was giving a reminder that we had switched to our summer earlier start, in case anyone forgot (and would be left behind).

Saturday rides on 6/29/19 are "away" rides starting at Leo Carillo at 8:30 am.
Sunday rides 6/30 are starting at the landing at 8:30 am (usual summertime Sunday start)
Thursday 7/4 ride is starting at the landing at 8:30 am (usual summertime holiday start)
