Hi CVC Red Riders: (and Red Riders + with route options shown below)
After another nice successful Cruisin' event last Sat.
   - we can return to our regular Sat. Club rides.
Since a lot of you are ramping up your training for upcoming Summer challenging rides,
let's ride one of our harder Sat. Red Rides this week.

Saturday, 5-18-13   8:30am Sprouts/Citibank parking lot
(NE Corner of Westlake Blvd. & Agoura/Hampshire Rd.'s)
Here's the regular Red Ride route with challenging options

From the Westlake start loc. referenced above:
East to Malibou Lake
Continue East on Mulholland Hwy to Mulholland/Las Virgenes
1st re-group at King Gillette Ranch ( water/bathrooms)
Continue East on Mulholland Hwy to Cold Canyon right turn
Climb Piuma  - to Schueren Rd.- to Stunt Rd. overlook
2nd re-group at Stunt Rd./Saddle Peak overlook
Proceed East on Saddle Peak Rd.
Descend Saddle Peak Rd. to Tuna Canyon Rd. intersection
Descend Tuna Canyon Rd. (one-way DOWN road) to PCH
    - make sure you have good brakes - this is a steep road
3rd re-group spot: Tuna Canyon Rd. & PCH
*Decide there who wants to ride with whom for either of two return options:
PCH West to: ( "a" is the hardest-steepest)
   OPTION: a) Las Flores Canyon-Hume Rd.-Briarbluff Dr.-Azurelee Dr.-Rambla Pacifico
                     to Piuma/Schueren Rd. intersection
OR... skip the Hume Rd. left turn and ride Las Flores all the way to Rambla Pacifica
which is an even steeper climb
Then from Piuma/Schueren - decide amongst yourselves as to return route to WL
OPTION: b) PCH West to Encinal Canyon - return on Decker to Westlake

* We'll decide at the Tuna Canyon/PCH re-group spot who wants to go back with whom on either return route
Here are the "Ride With GPS" ( RWGPS) route maps and profiles showing each return route
from the Tuna Canyon/PCH re-group spot.
a) The harder, steeper climbing option including Las Flores return route from PCH is at:
       https://ridewgps.com/routes/2143456
63 miles 8806' climbing  ( We've found that the cumulative climbing totals of RWGPS maps are + 30% overstated)
         - so it's probably more like 6,200' climbing

b) The route back from PCH riding to Encinal Canyon ( NOT climbing Las Flores) is at:
      htts://ridewgps.com/routes/2143553
    71.2 miles 9,172' climbing (realistically more like: 6,400' )
Not as much steep climbing but does include 19 miles of riding on PCH rollers through Malibu

See you Sat. at 8:30am
Jim Doane, CVC Red Ride Captain

Club Ride Inclement weather policy: At the ride start, should it be actively raining or the roads wet and a storm forecasted and/or treatening, it is club policy to cancel the official club ride and should members decide to ride anyway, it will not be considered an official club ride.
