CVC'rs, while riding PCH Sunday, I had the misfortune of coming up to a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that struck an SUV head on.  It was very disturbing, and made me reflect of how venerable we are as cyclists every time we are on the road.

One thing we all enjoy is the feeling of riding outdoors.  I found myself looking out at the beautiful ocean while riding, and at times not focusing on the road and cars near me.  I know this takes away from the experience, but we must always be watching our surroundings.  Be prepared to evade the person opening their door, pulling out into traffic, texting, or stopping in the bike lane.

We must remember and practice this at all times, even when strolling around for a "lake lap".  Do not get too comfortable, nor be complacent.

Safe riding to all.
