Long time CVC member, cycling ambassador, Amgen Breakaway from Cancer Champion and friend,  Reine Wiley passed away this morning.

I received this news and below quote from Reine’s daughter Kim who over the past five years has been keeping me apprised on Reine’s progress.

“Mom's cancer, carcinoid,  was discovered in early 2010 and she was given a 5 month survival time.  As all of you know, Mom far exceeded all  expectations on the longevity of her life as well as the amazing things she accomplished in the time since then.  Her role as wife, mother and grandmother never diminished.  Mom planned and took several bike rides along the way.  And as usual Mom was always giving of her time and love to those around her, near or far.”

The last time I saw and spoke with Reine her treatments were coming to a conclusion and she told me she was scared of what the future may hold.  She however, in the way we all knew Reine was destined to keep her head up and fight with everything she had.

What an amazing courageous woman.

In October of 2015 Reine had a terrible bicycle accident which resulted in a turn for the worse.  Coupled with this she started to experience heart issues as a result of all the treatments (Chemo, etc.) that she had gone through over the past 5 years.

There is no doubt in my mind though that Reine right now is ringing her familiar bike bell, smiling and free.

A service will be held at a later date and I am happy to keep anyone interested informed as to when that may happen.

Be well,
