On Saturday, the Red ride will head for Camarillo and Bradley over to Somis with a return over Grimes and Erbes. The Orange ride is heading for Moorpark up over Balcolm and Stockton. The Gold ride is heading for Moorpark as well, doing the reverse Grimes route up Grimes and back down Spring. Sunday the Red group is doing a Simi loop with a nice pop over Santa Susanna and Box Canyon. The GO ride is going to Camarillo with a return up Santa Rosa Valley and Reed Bypass. The Social ride is headed for a loop through Thousand Oaks and back over Westlake Boulevard. We've also got midweek rides Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, including the Rock Store race ride Tuesday night, cruise rides Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the Wednesday Pub Ride, and mountain biking on Thursday afternoons. We are planning a Newcomers Ride coming on the first Saturday of every month, starting September 3rd. Contact me for the ride outline and help us put together the information to be covered on the ride. Agoura Road is still closed just south of Kanan for another couple weeks. There is also construction on the roads in the Reed Bypass so watch for uneven surfaces and debris. Please warn riders behind you of anything in the bike lanes! You are their eyes when you are on the front. Let me know if I can help with anything bike or ride-related. I always have extra gear, supplies and my toolbox, pump, etc. And let's ride! Bart Ziegler Ride Director Conejo Valley Cyclists UPCOMING EVENTS Monday, August 29, 2016 Club Meeting at Newbury Park Bike Shop, 7pm, 1602 Newbury Rd., Newbury Park, Ca. 91320 A representative from the League of American Bicyclists will give a presentation on bike safety. Brad Edwards of Giant Bikes will present their new line up of Defy and TCR bikes. Ben from NPBS is also extending some great discounts on bikes, clothing and Conti GP4000 tires. We will also have our club line of hats, jerseys, socks, stickets, etc. for your purchase and refreshments. Bring cash, checks and a chair. Saturday, September 3, 2016 Newcomer's Ride Get a new rider on a bike, or come and cover some great brush-up info with us. We will cover everything from bike checks, basic handling, rules and guidelines for riding in a group, avoiding road hazards and setting your own riding goals. This first one will be a test run to get down the format and information to cover. Come help us develop the curriculum. We will host a Newcomer's Ride on the first Saturday of every Month. Monday, September 5, 2016 Labor Day Local Away Ride. We will meet at the beach and have a couple fun routes. Stay tuned for more info. REGULAR WEEKLY CLUB RIDES Tuesday: Morning Ride - Leader Sheila Levine-Sherwyn 8:30am at The Landing parking lot. 7-Minute HIll route. Evening Ride - Leader Jonathan Woodbury The fast paced Rock Store ride continues on Tuesday at 5:30 pm PDT sharp. A group also leaves at 5:15, at more of an orange pace. The faster group usually catches up at the regroup point at the Mullholland/Encinal Split on top. Both rides leave from the Landing's parking lot. Please note there is construction just south of Kanan on Agoura Road. Take Kanan north to Cornell and return this way, as well. Also, Decker/Westlake has just been repaved. Take extra caution on the descent. RWGPS route with Mulholland return (without Upper E) 26 + miles with 1,900' of climbing. All rides will roll out at 5:30. This is a Gold+ pace ride of approx. 20-25 miles. We will start at a different location each week, and end with a social gathering at one of the local dining establishments. Please watch for weekly announcements for start locations every week. SAFETY REMINDERS If there is a marked bike lane, cyclists may ride shoulder to shoulder. Single file otherwise. There is no three or four abreast at any time while moving.If you are wearing a CVC kit, you represent the club, so please be sure to follow the rules of the road.When riding with CVC, you agree to:* Wear a helmet and ensure my bike is in good working order.* Ride to the right, pass on the left.* Ride in the bike lane (where available) and signal when moving into another lane.* Ride no more than two abreast in the bike lane, single file on narrow roads, and avoid "Swarming" (bunching up and multiplying the chance of accidents)* Call out and point if I see a traffic hazard* Respect ALL traffic laws and the rights of all autos, bicycles, and pedestrians* Ride predictably and remind other to be safe* Be a bicycling ambassador PARKING Please remember when parking at The Landing for any weekend morning rides to park and congregate towards the far end of the lot away from the street and use the middle row. Do not park next to the homes. ADDITIONAL NOTES The Purple ride is considered a no drop. Having said that, please note that if you are falling behind or slower than the average pace, you may be dropped. All rides not asterisked are considered a "drop ride" so please understand the route before you start (and how to get back). If you get to a regrouping spot and no one is there, consider yourself dropped. As always, we will try to stick together and have a fun, safe ride. We will regroup regularly to allow everyone a chance to ride together. If for any reason you leave a group ride, please pass along the information to the ride leader. Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride. Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions; however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride.
