Question of the week:  Do you yoga?  Some of my cycling pals have told me they have back pains while riding.  My answer to that is core strength and flexibility, both of which can be found in yoga.  Personally, I have a P90x dvd that I do each Thursday night.   Tony is tolerable for me, and I will do the first 45 minutes which are stretching moves. The remaining 45 minutes are balance postures, and helpful, but I often don’t have enough time to spare before getting ready for the next work day.  It did feel a little silly at first, but I have found that when I am not able to Yoga, the whole body feels tighter and creaky.

Safety Tip of the Week: Watch for and Avoid Road Hazards-Be on the lookout for hazards such as potholes, broken glass, gravel, puddles, leaves, and dogs. All these hazards can cause a crash.  Always ride with at least one hand on the handlebars.  Save the “look, Ma, no hands!” tricks for the driveway at home. Carry books and other items in a bicycle carrier or backpack.  In wet weather watch your speed as surfaces may be slippery and it will take you longer to stop.

When riding with us:
·      wear helmets and ensure your bike is in good working order
·      stay in bike lanes and no more than two abreast on them; single file otherwise
·      not overlap wheels
·      descend carefully!  Look out for debris, animals, potholes, tight bends, and slick spots
·      pass slower riders on the left
·      ride predictably: signal when changing lines and call out hazards
·      avoid bunching up
·      respect all traffic rules and the rights of motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians
·   always use proper hand signals to indicate to drivers and other riders your intentions
·   we are a "rules of the road" cycling club
·     Inclement weather policy: In the interest of safety, whenever it is either actively raining
or the ride route has wet roads, it is our club policy to cancel a club ride.
Club members may still choose to meet and ride in these conditions;
 however, the ride will not be considered an official club ride
