Be careful in the canyons. Rain has brought down many rocks, and the surface will remain loose and unstable.
Road Closures
· Decker Road: Caltrans will close a portion of Decker Rd (State Route 23) approximately one mile north of PCH in Malibu for an emergency project to clean up and repair storm damage.
The full closure will be in effect continuously starting at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31, and is scheduled to end by 9:00 PM on Friday, February 3. The schedule is subject to change and weather permitting. Limited access for emergency vehicles will be provided during the closure.
Following the full closure, only one lane of Decker Rd in the project area will be available for traffic from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on most days through March. Crews will conduct one-way traffic control with flaggers to allow motorists to safely pass.
Flagging is scheduled to be in effect seven days a week from February 4-12, and Monday through Friday, from February 13 until the project is finished. The estimated completion date is the end of March, subject to change and weather permitting, as workers remove loosened rocks and other unstable slope material, install wire mesh anchored with rock bolts, and do other work to prevent future slides.
During the project, motorists should expect lengthy delays. Caltrans strongly advises drivers to use other routes whenever possible.
