I am sad to report to you that one of our members, Bob Muzio was involved in a serious accident during the Sunday Social ride. I have spoken with several members who were on the ride with him, and my understanding is that he was proceeding west on Agoura Road approaching Cornell Road. This section of the road was in and out of the shadows and on a downhill gradient. He hit some debris in the road, swerved, then he went down. He was unconscious initially, and had obvious trauma to his face and knee. A fellow rider immediately dialed 911 and other members attended to him until the ambulance arrived. He went to Los Robles Trauma Center and has been in the ICU since Sunday.
As of now, the family asked for no visitors. Going forward, I hope that we will be able to lend support to Bob and his family.
There are undoubtedly lessons to learn from this (as from all accidents and near misses)
With the low sun this time of year, shadows can hide road debris, potholes, and uneven pavement.
For now, I want everyone to be aware of this, to keep Bob in your thoughts, and to approach all road rides with respect and vigilance.
